Too bad about the rough handling. Yes you want to wash them off in warm water. The water needs to be warmer than the eggs, but not hot. If you need to use a wash cloth to scrub a little. Washed and clean is better than covered with yolk and bacteria. Good luck!I got my eggs today - unfortunately, they did not survive their journey. I do not think it was the packaging - I think they were treated roughly. Most of them were smashed. A few were not but they were soaked with egg innards. How should I go about setting them. Should I wash them off? I know you aren't supposed to but they are dripping.

The theory is that if you use cold water (or wipe) that the pores will contract and pull germs inside the egg, if you use warm water (or wipe) then it expands and pushes out of the pores. Just what I know....I would use unscented baby wipes that is what I do. I never wash mine in water afraid the water will go through the pours (spelling). If you have baby wipes I would use them. Sorry about your eggs. The post office has been very rough on stuff lately.
