Aracauna- how to chooses good rooster

I’m looking to buy a lavender aracauna and being I have no experience with this type of chicken I’m not quite sure how to distinguish if a rooster is a dud or decent enough to breed from. I know this picture of a rooster is almost ready to Crow would you say that he is healthy and he would be a good breeder. He’s a little bit dirty at the moment because he’s been in the rain a lot. Any advice please

Why do you want the rooster? If he is good or not depends a lot one why you want him. He looks a bit unhealthy to me on the second picture not too sure if he is. Age?

He should start crowing soon so I’d say young? I don’t know the age exactly just that he’ll start crowing soon. I want to breed him.

Some don’t start crowing until 8 months old I think. Breeding for show?

No I don’t want to show him. Although I might get into it one day but I just want nice offspring and blue eggs lol

I would wait for somebody else to reply. But I personally would skip getting this chicken, closer look at the feet makes me worried it has scaly leg mites I am not 100% sure since I am still learning, it’s also weird they won’t tell you the age, I am not even sure that is a cockerel

I would not buy this bird for several reasons. It does not seem healthy, it does look to be a mixed breed. Bringing him home, you might compromise your own birds with whatever he carries.

If you want Ameraucanas, better buy some hatching eggs from a reputible breeder.

These are English Lavender Araucana, a breed developed from the original rumpless Araucana many years ago.


But nevertheless, the bird pictured by the OP even shows barred hackle feathering.
