The copy of the gene from the hens can range because its impossible to select for outside of breeds that HAVE the fibro gene.

You can select for it. Chickens with white or yellow legs have the sex-linked Id gene (inhibitor of dermal melanin). I realize now that an Araucana mix can't be sex-linked because they have slate legs, meaning no copy of Id.
