I'm gonna be honest with you now. I HATE spiders. The hate is beyond anything. I see a spider and I pray to any god as long as it kills it.

Tonight my SO fell asleep on the couch and I went out for a smoke. There right above my head was a spider. And I'm not talking a baby itty bitty spider. I'm talking a freakin halloween decoration. I was already outside and it was blocking my exit inside. I waited for that THING to come down so I could walk past and go in to get the raid. I couldn't find raid so I home defensed it's butt. Finally it was hard as a rock and then I beat it to death with a fly swatter.

I'm not a bad person. I love all animals. But I hate spiders. I'm sure some people feel this way about mice or cockroaches. But to me spiders are unholy evil for some reason

I swear to you that I beat the calcified corpse of that arachnid to death and I am still turning on my cell flashlight to make sure it didnt come back. Im frightened over a dead spider now making sure it doesnt come back for revenge. Idk whether to be afraid or mad at myself for this stupidity.
There is no accounting for a phobia. You can tell yourself it's stupid or silly or whatever, but it's visceral and you just can't control it. My mother was so phobic about snakes, one time she leaped about 3 feet in the air and sent a handful of photos flying because there was a PICTURE of a snake in the stack she was looking at. And she just suddenly wasn't sitting on the couch between two people any more, she was in the other room. Everyone swore she levitated. She was in her late 50's at the time.

My MIL is terrified of everything "creepy crawlie" except for spiders. I like to think that my fear is based on the very real knowledge that we have 2 deadly spiders livimg in our area: black widow and brown recluse. But I avoid all spiders. I have seen both in my years of being alive and it was no different than if a tiny spider was present. I know snakes quite well and I know we have 2 that are poisonous: the water moccasin and the copperhead (southern indiana). Most of the time if you're not in a swamp you only encounter a garter snake. I raised many growing up. I also raised a rat and other small rodents. But if a spider is on TV or a photo is shown to me...I cringe. Encountering one naturally is...depending upon proximity, an avoidance or all out death match

We have black widows and brown recluse here, too. But we also have a lovely big striped one called the rabid wolf spider, and I protect these. My children are not allowed to molest them, because they KILL the harmful ones! When I moved here ten years ago I educated my husband about them, and we almost never see the bad ones any more! Is this fighting fire with fire? 😆
