Araucana laying eggs with a thick central ring on the outside of egg

Hi Caroline,

Thank you for your input. Unfortunately, we bricked 4 feet out from the coop and landscaped so no opportunity to look for tracks. I keep checking the wire screening to see if there are signs of "attempted forced entry" but so far nothing. I am sure they are visiting, just not successfully (thank goodness). Since my post, Omelette's eggs are back to normal.

I have sand and organic top soil in their run -- more soil than sand. I'd like to have nothing but sand but thought that a daily intake by them pecking at the ground might be more than their little constitutions can take. I keep ground oyster shells It looks like you have been at this a while, have you had any issues with just sand? It seems like it would be cleaner as well.

The story about the doggie door is hilarious!! After our second vizsla we considered putting one in until Teak ran into the house after rolling in something (he was escorted out immediately) and I thought what if we weren't home and this happened? so no doggie door. At the time, we were considering installing one that only opens with the dog's invisible fence collar.

Nights are becoming cooler, do you have a light in your coop?

Thanks again for your response,
Nancy

********Sorry this is so late getting to you. Evidently, I posted this incorrectly and it went to BYC automated e-mail and they just notified me. I'm still learning how to use this website. N
