Araucana thread anyone?

Good luck! Does your roo have any problems lining up with the tailed girls? My white araucana roo couldn't get things to work out, as much as he tried.

I had a red clean faced araucana roo. he mated my biggest girl (8 lb). I set 1 of her eggs and a little cockerel hatched.

Yes I know, they are quite puzzling, I think that because we have a VERY limited gene pool of this breed here, they all started from 2 roosters and 5 hens If I remember correctly, that can be the reason.

we in greece have araucanas like that. it is allowed by the german SOP.

On a whole different note... I candled eggs last night. Ten were not fertile. Three are questionable and I will recandle them Wednesday.

It seems Blue is not fertilizing the clean faced blue hen, but he is the double tufted blue hen.
It seems Triple Tufts is not fertilizing the clean faced black hen, but is fertilizing the other two (a double tufted black and clean faced BBR). Maybe a blessing in disguise though as that would cut down on the amount of clean faced chicks I get. I'll try vent trimming the clean faced blue for my next set of hatching eggs. The clean faced black I'll just let go.

I've seen treading on the clean faced black hen's back indicating the triple tufted cock is mounting her. But I have not seen this on the clean faced blue hen...so it is possible Blue Boy isn't even trying. The other hen with him was is show mate - they showed in 4-H in the breeding pen group. So maybe he is just used to her??
What's odd about Triple Tuft's hens are none of them are vent trimmed, and the BBR has more "fluff" on her behind than the CF black hen, but yet her eggs are getting fertilized.

You know that in this times gender and masculinity, are some what ...m.m.m .....fluid, so he also doesn't sure about himself....

But on the serious side, sometime they can have some Testosterone levels problems.
