That's what I feared. How can anyone call them what they obviously are not. I give up on trying to find someone local. I may never have any of these birds.

PLEASE inform these people they are NOT true Araucanas! It could just be ignorance, or they could be trying to pull a fast one on people. That's what I feared. How can anyone call them what they obviously are not. I give up on trying to find someone local. I may never have any of these birds.
Mottling is recessive and requires the bird to have both genes in order to express it. It’s possible that as they get older and after each successive molt they will have more Mottling. Both parents are recessive. Well, Manolito is questionable on whether he is a carrier showing the gene, or if he is truly mottled with low expression. If he is truly mottled, I'll still only get 50% of the chicks to show mottling. If he is a carrier only, then only 25% of the chicks will be mottled. I did hatch a fully mottled chick out of these two last month, but unfortunately he died.I was hoping to get a fully mottled pullet out of this pair this year so I could breed her back to Manolito next year.

I know how frustrating it is to find Araucanas. My first Araucana, the cockbird in my avatar, was an extra cockerel out of hatching eggs a lady purchased. I still had to travel an hour and a half one way to get him. It took me OVER A YEAR to find more. I harassed Nancy Utterback by email so much I'm surprised she didn't file a restraining order against me! But my persistence finally got me some birds.
Don't give up. It will happen. If you follow Willow Acres on Facebook she frequently has started juveniles for sale. Her whites are FANTASTIC, but I would steer away from her duckwings. I can't really speak for her other colors. I hatched out some of her blues and so far I am happy with them.
True, but both parents can have the gene and still not all chicks will inherit both. This is a good chart on mottling:Mottling is recessive and requires the bird to have both genes in order to express it. It’s possible that as they get older and after each successive molt they will have more Mottling.
How old is he? I would hold onto him and see if his mottling increases after each molt.A recessive carrier can show their gene, but not often.
That's why I am unsure if Mano is truly mottled with low expression, or if he is a carrier showing his gene.
Ten months old. I have no plans to get rid of him.How old is he? I would hold onto him and see if his mottling increases after each molt.
