Araucana thread anyone?

yeah I meant to say Lav is submissive to black but i said it backwards.

moms dont pass barring to their daughters, only their sons, so they're not actually hiding the barring, they just dont have it. daughters get it from the dads.

(sorry slow speed times messed up all three postings)

Victoria i don't see how it can be made the Lave Cuckoos. Blue is easy because it it just black with a blue also but Lav is more like 'either this' 'or that' I think thats what Illia was saying is you get splits instead of any affect on color.

if anybody else knows?

also to add: remember that blue is dominant to black but also that it doesn't destroy the black it just dilutes it. if the lav was similar to that then easy, but nope i don't know what to do.

if I am following you now:

Lav Roosty and Barred Hen = Pullets are Black pheno and 'splits' in geno - half Lav (?) I say '?' because I cannot be 100-certain and want you to know that.

so then those splits to the Lav Roosty, whos the dad, = all Lav.

So that has awesomeness, but still I don't see how to make a Lav Barred.

ooh- idea- Um what about a Lav Hen and Barred Roosty! Is this the magic way or the road to it?

Lav Roo x Barred Hen

Offspring will be:

Pullets - Black, no barring w/ one copy of Lav

Cockerels - Black, Single copy of barring gene (dark barred), w/ one copy of Lav

Crossing of offspring will result in different Phenotypes

Lavender Pullets and Cockerels - No Barring

Split Lavender Pullets and cockerels - No Barring (appear black)

Lavender Pullet and Cockerels - With one copy of barred gene, pullet is finished, cockerel needs second copy to be finished.

Split Lavender pullets and cockerels - With one copy of barring gene (appear black)

Breed the Lavender Barred birds to each other, cull the resulting single barred cockerels, keeping only those with two doses, and bingo, barred lavenders breeding true for color.

I am sure we have completely lost conformation along the way.

Good luck

a miracle has happened!!! 1 has hatched and I have 1 pipped, out of the 18 fried eggs so I guess all is not lost ;-) 102 is all I can get the temp stabilized at. 1 tiny giggle of the thermostat and it goes down to 100 or up to103 so I have both vents open and the bubble wrap off the top. Just hope it doesn't keep dropping the humidity level which has gone down to 52% with all wells full and 4 extra dishes of water too. Is cold outside today with very low humidity in the air.

Please keep your fingers crossed for me that more survive.
