Araucana thread anyone?

Thank you,

His body type is exactly like mine. I need to get a new pic of him. I will post him in the next couple of days. I would like an idea of what colors he might throw. I am thinking of putting him in with my Wheaten/Ginger pullets, to see what I could get.

Your boy is tufted isn't he?

Yep. He's had both tufts pulled out quite a while ago though. . . But you can sort of see the nubs where they used to be.

ETA - If it helps, Marango is a e+/e+ Co/Co Ml/Ml S/s+ Bl/bl+ (Basically a "golden" duckwing with blue, columbian, and melanizers that give him this chest: )

He was startled by the roo next door in that pic. Normally he struts around like a peacock. His saddle is much more yellow now.

I am not good with Genetics, I thought that was a Pattern Gene and had something to do with Birchen, my first Duckwing Rooster had that as well as the bigger comb, the one I have now has alot less of that on the Chest and a smaller Comb than the Rooster he came from, so I felt like I got improvements on both issues.

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I think I fried my 18 eggs due to hatch tonight/tomorrow. last night when we turned the heat on DH told me my bator was reading 102.2 which isn't to bad. I told him to open the back vet hole and to not bump the thermostat. The back vent hole is where I have my temp/humidity line going in. This afternoon I was looking to see if any pips yet and I noticed my probe was almost to the bottom of the eggs instead of the top. I pulled it up to correct position and it read 103.4. have no idea how long the temp has been that high. Sniff sniff I will let them go through Monday then start tossing them as I have more to go into the lock down bator Tuesday Heritage Delawares and Araucana. Guess I can start some more Araucana eggs since they are still laying good

exoticduckluvr - Sorry to hear of that. But hey! At least you have eggs.

My ONLY Araucana eggs I've been getting lately were completely without knowledge. . .

To create some feather-shanked, rumpless, tufted, and Black Copper colored Olive Eggers. However, I was never getting eggs because just was just barely broody a little over a month ago. The past couple weeks, her comb has gotten redder once more and she looked ready to lay, so I've been pairing them up for some gorgeous olive eggers.

Well guess what? She's broody, AGAIN, with who knows how many of her own eggs under neath her. I have no clue where she's hiding, or how long it has been, I just noticed that I rarely ever see her anymore, and the one time she does pop out during the day, she's cluckin up a storm like she's broody.

Looked all over in the barn (where she sleeps and last was broody) and have yet to find her secret stash. But I can't wait to see the babies!!

Well from the picture she looks brown red herself, it will be interesting to see if the chicks are brown red with tufts and feather legged.

I wanted to create some Olive Eggers too, but don't know if I use an Araucana Roo over a Cuckoo Bantam Marans Hen or if I use a Cuckoo Bantam Marans Roo over an Araucana.

My Bantam Marans egg color is about a 5 to some 6's on the Marans color chart, so which way is going to be best? And will I need to breed more than one generation to get better Olive Egg coloring?

Victoria

Bantam Cuckoos? Awesome!

With color that poor, I'd say the second generation Olive Eggers would produce better eggs. As for who's mom, who's dad - Doesn't matter. But the cuckoo mom will allow you to control the darkness of the egg, AND give sex linked offspring.
