Araucana thread anyone?

I will pretend I didn't read the last 2 post.

I have 4 dogs and they are great.

I do agree people should not keep dogs unless they have enough room to keep them free and of course outside. no walking them and picking their poop, etc.

I agree, I love my dog, and the two I had before him. So heart breaking when they have to go. My first, Frazzem, was 18 when I finally had to put her down. Sweetest and smartest dog I've ever had.

Aaaaand I'm jumping on the Araucana Rooster band wagon! I love them! I REALLY need to get another cockerel (or two), since I lost the two I'd had. SIGH. I need another cockerel!

I sure hope you can find a new Araucana cockerel. :fl

Well, I need to go back to the source. LOL. Its late in the season, in my opinion, so next spring I'm gonna get in touch with Ann again and ask her to let me know what she's got coming up. I'd love to get another GDW, and hopefully get a female to go with him. I don't mind the project colors, but I'd like to at least have a pair of standard colors.

I've been on Ann's email list a couple years now and she sells year round. So its not too late!

Well, I'm not exactly sure what possessed me, but we stuck 11 more eggs in the incubator last weekend. I believe I was trying to get some chicks from our cream legbar hen, but don't quote me on that because it could just be chicken math!

Candeled the eggs at day 10. Those darn Aracauna butts that make it hard to get the job done! Only 1 egg was developed. OUT OF 11 EGGS! :barnie

The 2 other chicks that hatched previously are now 5 weeks old. How am I going to raise ONE CHICK? In 10 more days, when the egg hatches, I'll have moved the two other chicks to a different, larger grow out pen. One lone chick will be miserable by itself!!:jumpy

I thought about setting more eggs in the incubator, but the low fertilization percentage doesn't guarantee any others I set will develop. Best case in that scenario is that the one would still be alone for 10 days.

Guess I'll be making a minimum chick purchase at one of the online hatcheries!

Has anyone noticed how early Araucanas go to roost in the evenings, or is it just mine? All mine go in about an hour earlier than the other breeds.
I don’t know if it’s just Araucanas, but my current flock roosts about a half hour before it’s actually dark or around the time the sun starts to set. My first flock stayed out late until it was almost dark before going to roost.
