Omniskies, I think you've got the right of it. Well atleast for this year, seperate them BBR, Blue, black, and whites into their own. Not sure how many is in a group, or how big the pens are. I would be tempted if it were me to keep the best 2 BBR roos even though you only have the 1 pulllet, that way you can swap em out and get a bit of diversity out of her eggs. If you like the BBR, incubate alot! If you have the space, incubate a bunch to see what your getting. if mystery things are popping up, keep track of where they come from and you can swap em about. You mentioned you were concerned about too many eggs. I'd be interested in some blue hatching eggs once its warmer, i know a couple others would be too. You could always let your hens set and raise their own up, that'll slow em down some for ya

I still need to get my birds trimmed and put into breeding pens but am starting to hatch now as I get my incubators going. Does anyone want the pet quality chicks hatched from my blue eggs? I am in Spanaway, WA. These will be mostly bantams.

I also have eggs in the incubator. I have a batch of 8 araucana out of my splash pen due tuesday, and the following sunday I have about a dozen araucana from my splash pen and from my ginger pen.

I have 18 fertile eggs set aside for the raffle at the poultry show in Humboldt county. They are all out of my splash pen. That roo has 5 girls and could easily handle a few more. On the flip side I have a roo with two girls and no fertility. I was hoping to get around to fluff trimming today but we have the flu. UGH!

I am so excited for this spring. I am going to hatch everything, and I mean everything. My best broody just went unbroody and laid an egg, so she is back to the breeding pen. Her babies weren't happy but she was definately getting tired of them. Whiny kids.

I highly recommend the book by Cathy Brunson " Araucana ring on their ears". I just finished reading it. So much really cool information. Too much to take in the first time. I am going to read it over and over.

Ann, gorgeous! I love the close ups and it's amazing the things you can see on them that you don't notice just looking at them. I suppose that's because they're never still, lol

I do loads of pics to get good ones, thank goodness for digital

It's so much easier to study their combs and eye color and all that with a still photo and I've even noticed that I get a better look at even their color when they aren't moving around and I Love seeing everyone's Araucana's too.....
Need more pictures here!
