Araucana thread anyone?

"Gosh, Illia, that splash rooster of yours on the bid site is caaaaaaalllllllling to me; too bad I spent all of my money on the incubator. I would bid on that boy in a heart beat if I had anything to bid!

Spent a snowy, windy evening trying to drag bantam Araucanas down from the tree tops to get them into their breeding pens. Managed to get three of the girls down. By golly can they shreek like banshees!! Wild little darlings. I am so ready to get that gorgeous bantam rooster making tufted chicks!!! Last year was a fertility disaster, so fingers crossed that this new fellow has got what it takes."

That must get a bit uncomfortable for her after a while.

Honestly, though, I don't think I've heard of a hen laying 3 in a day before. Must be pretty rare. I wonder if her offspring would produce that many?

The weather here hasn't been so frigid and my Araucana's are laying good now, candling good and I am hatching chicks from these new ones so I was wondering if anyone would like to swap some hatching eggs with me??

Here is the rooster and the hens that these eggs are out of, the eggs are all a nice turquoise blue, one lays bluer and one lays the largest egg with a slight green tint. Brooster has large, even tufts. All of these girls are laying so I expect these are eggs out of them but I have some pullets in with them that may sneak one in. I'm expecting them to begin anytime but figure I'll know because the first eggs should be smaller. I may have some young for sale later this spring or for trade.

Velvet
I can't find her photo, she's clean faced and rumpless, totally black

The pullets are
Tootie - looks like Sandi but younger and smaller with a couple tail feathers and she's tufted
LuvDove - pale blue, has a few darker blue spots, small but equal tufts, tailed.
Satin - very black, clean faced rumpless
Squirrely Shirley - Looks like Slinky but has tufts and a partial tail

I've just got my first araucanas! They are supposed to be blue, but I'm told they are lavender?

magicpigeon,
The top two are definately blues not lavender. The other one looks a lighter color but you will have to wait a little longer to be sure what color it really is. Good luck.

Right now I'd rather trade hatching eggs. I'm trying to get my gene pool a little bigger and I want some to raise this spring so I decided selling eggs might put me behind. I may sell eggs a little later, when I have as many chicks to raise as can manage to keep. I'll have some young to sell later this spring when I sort out what I have and what I need to keep for next year. I have 5 young right now and once I can sex them, I'll put some pairs together to sell.

About 4 years ago when I first set out looking for Araucanas, I found Nancy Utterback. I dont even know if she is still breeding anymore. I ordered some chicks from her. I received various tufted, non tufted, rumpless and tailed chicks. They all feathered out to be blue, black or white. Except 1. She ended up a very pretty mottled. How did I end up with a mottled bird? At the time, I think she was just breeding blues, blacks and whites. I never got around to asking her about Peanut. Didnt realize how unusual it was until recently. She lays a beautiful, but small blue egg. Any thoughts on a mottled?
