By golly, I'd say you did that right! Gorgeous Araucanas Cashdl! Such vivid colors and patterning. Where did your birds come from?
I got some of my birds from Gary Ramey, some from Ann Horsman, some from Dan Wake, and the sorta Mille Fleur colored girl from a young man in Sacramento. I also have 60+ eggs in various incubators because one can never have enough.
I'm guessing that splash of yours, cashdl - Is from Gary Ramey? He has gorgeous splashes!! All of my Araucanas are from him.
As with my photos - Yeah, I had Ann Cushing look at them when they were younger, and she suspected Silver Duckwing as well. I just hope they mature to some proper coloring.
Yes the splash girls are from Gary and so is the spotty roo, not sure what color he is but hoping he will help my mille fleur to have more wild colors.
Here are pics of my first ever chick thats hatched and its an araucana to boot. I am soo excited. I set 17 eggs in an incubator and 6 are in various stages of hatch. This chick was under a broody hen but I think it was soo vigerous trying to hatch she kicked it out. The egg was rocking and rolling when I saw it. I put it in the incubator and it hatched in about 5 minutes.
It is out of my roo from Gary and either my black hen or my mille fleur hen. I could hardly wait for it to hatch and now I cant wait for it to get big enough to see what color it is going to be.

I just keep coming back to look at that "Mille Fleur" hen. That is really so beautiful. What type of rooster do you have over her? It will be so interesting to see the chicks that she produces. Please, PLEASE, post picks as her offspring grow (pretty please?). I just don't know that much about the Mille Fleur color genetics but now I am inspired to go learn more.
ETA Oh, reread and see that you have that - is it a silver duckwing rooster?- over her. Wow. Wish I knew enough about the color combo to guess at the grown chicks color. He is quite a handsome roo. OK, well, I repeat please show us the offspring. I'll thank you in advance!!
It's funny you brought up using the eye line thing for sexing chicks. I just read something about that same thing a few days ago. I have a couple of Serama chicks that I'm using this theory on. They mature rather early so I don't have to wait long to see if it works for them. I had read that the eye line thing only worked on the "wild" patterns.
Here are a couple of my Serama Chicks, the eye line is very different for each chick so we'll see in a couple more weeks I think.
I'll post their photo's later when I can be certain of their sex. The one on the left would then be assumed to be the pullet. Another thing I've noticed in the serama's, in particular, is that the pullets seem to feather out more quickly. Anyone note that with their araucana chicks?

Not in my Araucanas, no, but my Marans - Oh yeah. The pullets are completely feathered in, and the cockerels are still SO gawky looking with only wing feathers, chest feathers, tail feathers, and neck feathers.

I have her in a pen with the reddish roo with the dark spots on his chest. I don't know what color to call him.
