Araucana thread anyone?

Lanae,
I'm betting they will totally change color/pattern in adult feathers. My chicks are doing that and I'm thinking pullet for you also, since there is so much red/peach on the chest......... so from that, I'm guessing this pretty one is a cockerel....no tufts but definitely going to be a big boy. Does anyone have photo's to share of a BBR youngster that is 4 to 6 months old? Columbo and Deja are nearly the same size now and they are "Gorgeous"! I make keep one of them just cause. They're really built with big bone and good size to the body. They're both looking more duckwing every day and I'm thinking Joker is the dad. Both of them had more red at this age than this chick so I'm wondering what this one is going to mature to look like. No red on this one anywhere.

Very pretty. So I have another bird that I think is a roo. It is all red except for columbian pattern in the hackles and black splotches on the chest. Doesn't the black on the chest indicate male, because I have the another bird that is identical, but there is no black on its chest and the hackle black is not so much, so I am guessing it is a pullet. I tried taking pics but they were all fuzzy.

Any thoughts on chest color would be appreciated. The reason I ask is I have sold a trio to a lady and she wants a tufted rumpless male with two cleanfaced pullets. The bird with black on its chest is a contender. If it is for sure a roo, I will send it to her because it has the correct leg color and is double tufted. If it is a pullet than I will send my other roo that has perfect tufts but wrong leg color then pair the tufted pullet with another tufted rumpless pullet and cleanfaced rumpless roo and sell them as a trio.

Oooh I see a gold duckwing boy, a columbian boy, another gold duckwing boy, and now a silver duckwing boy.

The white on his chest will not completely disappear, he is likely to keep some.

Illia, Do Be Quiet! If your not going to give me the answer I want, don't tell me. Just kidding. I hope your wrong. Probably not though. I am going to still call it a her and hopefully it will magically become one.

Now how about my question on the black on the chest of BBR bird with columbian gene. Is it an indication of a roo?

Illia,
Did you see my youngster that's white with the red head? I posted earlier asking but thought I'd try again, is this one a dominant white? Down color was yellow. The one's I've been calling recessive white had other color down (chipmunks) and feathered out sparkling white. And, if it is, what's the best mate color?

and in case you missed it, here is a new one of Lucy. Does she look buff now? Under the golden feathering is blue fluff and she still has some blue on her flight feathers.

AND! I went garage sale-ing this morning! Of course I found lots of really cute baby boy stuff for my 8 month old grandson but I ALSO found some poultry items.....
I got a non-working dorm size fridge that my husband and son will make into an incubator

I'll be reading through posts and online elsewhere to figure out how I want mine made.

ANd, I bought a 10 gallon barrel that I'm going to turn into a waterer, just have to pick up some nipples and decide how I want to hang it. My Beetle was stuffed before I left town....

Three of four eggs hatched today. Looking like 2 blues and a black but waiting to confirm it when they dry off. It would make sense that as soon as I decided blue wasn't a color I'd work on, more than 50% of my chicks hatching are blue now??

That's okay though, anyone here wanting to trade something they have for some blues when they're older?
One of the older babies has a tuft, I can't tell on these new chicks yet but they're all rumpless. I'd trade pullet for pullet, cockerel for cockerel, tufted for tufted etc. I'd like some more blacks so if I don't trade them off, I'll breed them to the blacks I do have and sell the blues......or keep them and breed them back to more blacks......

I'm losing it!

They're still not all fluffy yet but I snapped a few and they were all blurry. I'll give it a try later or tomorrow when they'll actually by fluffy. One is that pewter blue with a cream belly. The other 2 I'm still not certain. The one that looked black may end up a BBR but it's very dark. the last one is blue but has more cream than the other, it's a softer blue and has cream markings on the face so I'm wondering if it's a blue breasted red? blue duckwing? I'll know more later but the face of the one I thought was black looks to have too much of a black/brown tone to be just black and no yellow on the face like my other black chicks.

None of the pics were good of them as individuals but this one at least wasn't all blurry

Where are these markings coming from? Nice "big" black chick. Hatch Date Feb 21, typical black chick, had the yellow eyebrows

I have hatched my first birchen chick this morning. Yah! It is black with yellow chipmonk pattern to it, and since it came out of my birchen pen, with a silver duckwing hen and a black hen, I am assuming it is going to be birchen. Its still wet so can't tell if it has tufts.

Cathy,

I have a tufted black pullet that has similar markings to your black chick, but fainter.
