12 healthy and beautiful chicks from Sky Blue Egg arrived in the mail this a.m. - 7 banty and 5 LF. I'm seeing tufts on two for sure and I think a third chick. I'll post pics as soon as the little guys have had a chance to rest up after their big journey.

I've got tons of chicks on the ground now with mothers. It's getting to be comedic seeing all these babies running everywhere with their clucking biddies. Most are blacks or blues and I have a few stripey chicks mixed in.

Araucanas should not lay eggs of any colour except blue. However, there is a very fine line between hte hue that one person perceives as blue and that which another person perceives as green. As the hens progress through their egglaying cycle, the eggs become lighter and lighter. As a bird ages, the depth of colour can also lessen. Liver issues can also affect blue egg colour.

Her is my little Araucana hen Peanut. I got her from Nancy U. about 2 years ago. She lays the prettiest little blue egg. Does anybody else have a mottled Araucana? At the time, Nancy had blue, blacks and whites. Peanut feathered out mottled. How would I go about breeding more?

I don't have mottled and I want mottled even though it is not a standard color. I love non standard colors. I am sooo jealous. I love the green in there. I bet she just glows in the sun.

I have a muscovy duck with those colors and love to watch her play as the sun shines on her colors.

To get more Mottled I would cross with a recessive white.
I do not have mottled in my Aras but I do have a gorgeous non tufted white hen. She is so lovely and enjoys me stroking her feathers. Super spoiled but I do love them enough to boil them eggs and feed them from my hand.
I am not getting as many tufted chicks this year but I sold several nice hens and haven't hatched as many this year. The few chicks I do have left after selling most that I hatched are pullets (thank goodness!) and I crossed my red/blue roo with a Cuckoo Marans hen that never grew a tail. The pullet chicks are red barred and rumpless. They will make a nice pen of Olive eggers, I hope.

I was so lucky to hatch out some peeps and get 2 hens for keepers. One has huge double tufts and is rumpless...the other is partial tailed (2-3 feathers) clean faced. About 11 weeks old in these pics. I am learning as I go!
Very curious & sweet birds.
