Araucana thread anyone?

I'll be honest with you, there are VERY few breeders out there who have true breeding colors of Araucanas and offer such (no mixes, no mysteries)

I'm working towards solid duckwings and maybe some creles on the side, but even I right now have extended black floating around the flock to help with type and also to get rid of the pattern and melanizer genes that I have in some of my duckwings. My main duckwing male has some issues I don't like, though he is a handsome hunk, - So I've got some non-duckwings to help him out, and eventually, he'll be replaced quite soon.

I believe Steve Waters is one of the few who offer a recognized color with no strings attached.

I found Steve Waters' website and the birds seem great. But he doesn't sell eggs and the started birds are waayy out of my price range. I guess rare breeds probably aren't good for a beginner. Maybe in a couple years when I have more experience with chickens and can afford it I'll look into them again

That's probably your answer, sorry. When it comes to showing, that's definitely the answer. For fun though, there's no harm in getting a mixed flock.

Well, I'm glad I figured it out early rather than being disappointed later on. I'll probably get some from Hink-jc anyway, though. It would be interesting to cross one of them with my EE cockerel... rumpless, tufted, bearded Easter Eggers, lol.

I'm going on my 3rd year raising and hatching chicks....so I feel I'm finally ready to give it a go. I've been wanting some for going on, oh, 2 and a half years now and just finally found out where to get some! I'm absolutely jumping out of my socks in anticipation... but yea, had to finegle my way into affording them! And then justifying it! But oh! Will it be worth it to have them!!!
