Araucana thread anyone?

Nice pictures!

I just put 6 out of 12 shipped Araucana eggs into lockdown. I pray that I will a have a few hatch to go with my only Araucana chick that I hatched a few weeks ago.

I have recently decided that I really want some black Araucanas to have as show birds. I have found that Hink-jc Mountain Poultry has black Araucanas and so does Chicken Scratch Poultry and I am considering getting hatching eggs from both of them in the Spring (to avoid inbreeding as much as possible). Does anybody here have experience with birds/eggs from either of these breeders? Are their chickens show quality?

So, I've got my heart set on hatching some Auracanas this spring!

I will spend some time perusing this thread, but would love to see some recent photos of the different color variations possible for Purebred, tufted, rumpless Auracanas! I am hoping for some very varied color combos!

With the exception of the tufted splash hen, these are all birds I have hatched this year. The tufted splash hen Is a Gary Ramey bird and I do get her coloration hatching often also.

Fleabuskitty,

I do not have personal experience with either of those. Black can be just as difficult as the other araucana colors, because you can get bleed thru of other colors. I wish you success in your endeavers. I think your best bet would be Hinkjc of the two, but that is merely an opinion.

Same here - Seeing the website photos for the other breeder I see some duckwings, which means you're likely going to get some blacks carrying recessive duckwing as well as blacks with color leakage.

Hinkjc does strictly blacks separate from any other color.

Omigosh!! That is EXACTLY what I mean!! I CANNOT WAIT for February to get your eggs, Cashdl!! Your birds are absolutely gorgeous and I'm dying to hatch them, especially if I get some hens like in the first picture. What color do you call that? Silver Duckwing or somethingorother?

Hmm, I guess I'll do just Hink-jc. I don't have any real experience with breeding birds to a standard so I want to start with a color that will have as few problems as possible. I do realize that Araucanas are difficult to breed, so I want to get the best to start with. I've just noticed on the Hink-jc website that it says " **No Guarantee on color of chicks! **No choice on color at this time!**", though... are there any other breeders that have solid (or as close to solid as possible) colored Araucanas? I'm willing to settle for white or blue instead of black.
