Araucana thread anyone?

I wish my araucana laid 3 eggs a day. They are pretty good about laying 1 a day, but 3 would definately help me out at the farmers market.LOL

Wow, the Araucana thread is alive again!

. . . Must show off my "man," Canis the splash cockerel, and his amazing tufts.

He's really good to the ladies, and makes a humming trill 24/7.

Otherwise, all my other 22 or so Araucanas are still awaiting better photos.

Does ANYONE, though, have golden duckwing cockerels with tufts they're willing to part with?

Oh, and has anyone had a NON late bloomer? Because to my surprise, my Araucanas begin laying at around an early 19 weeks old.

Ken,

Are the eggs all the same size or are they small marble like eggs? And did your bird just start laying?

I had a Leghorn Hen once that did lay 2 eggs a day, same size eggs and large eggs at that, she didn't lay them every day like that, 3 or 4 times a month I'd get 3 eggs from two Leghorn Hens, they laid one egg a day each, everyday normally, but a couple of times a month I was getting 3 from the 2 of them, so I know one of the Hens defiantely laid 2 eggs a day and they never laid those marble sized eggs. And like you I was shocked when I found them.

Illia,

I would trade my tufted splash hen that would go beautiful with him if you had a tufted silver duckwing hen.

It is soo exciting to see people posting again.

I have a silver duckwing pullet that has been non-tufted till today. I picked her up and looked at her and she has 1 decent sized feather sticking out of her head. I am soo happy. My other duckwing pullet has two huge tufts. So now I can start on my duckwings. My duckwing roo is clean faced so I wanted to put tufted girls with him.
Here is my two duckwing babies and my tufted splash hen.

like what legs color to what color hens. Like Slate is gray?? Olive greenish legs, yellow legs, and I guess Swarthy horn is black?? AOV's especially or is there no standard for them?
I am new to them and are just a hobbie to full my days while DH is at work. I'll post pics of what I have and you can tell me about them in a little while

I don't have ANY duckwings with tufts.

That's my problem. Got a silver duckwing girl, a gold duckwing boy, and a silver duckwing boy I culled weeks ago due to his sour temperament and tiny size. Also, he had no tufts.

Beautiful splash girl though!!

cashdl, don't you have a yellow cockerel with blue on his hackles in your flock somewhere? I'd love to see a photo of him - I recall you having one like that, and would love to see if he's identical to mine.

Cash if you keeping showing that Splash I am going to sneak over and steal her lol. She is sooooooo beautiful. I just love the coloring. I have a brown/chocolate one that is not mottled like yours but he is beautiful

Illia,

Nope, the only roos I have are a tufted splash, tufted blue, clean faced duckwing. Used to have a georgous tufted BBR but he keeled over dead in his pen. May have been the heat. Now I am hoping to get a tufted BBR out of the eggs I have in the incubator from his pen.

I do have 3 clean faced bbr roo chicks and a clean faced splash with butchers apron.

You may be thinking of my splash roo. He is yellowish with blue specks but not blue hackles. I will get pics of him and put them on here and you can let me know. Mean time post pics of yours.

I am going to keep posting her pic untill someone gets tired of looking at it and agrees to trade me a tufted duckwing hen for her. So if you are going to sneak over here remember to leave one in her place and I will call it even. LOL!!

I got splash's coming out my ears, but hardly any duckwings.

Post a pic of your roo. I would love to see it.

Hahah, the one time I had a working camera outside, he was being shy. . . This is what I got of him.

Taken about a month ago. He's an uneven tufted boy who's mostly bright yellow, with blue hackles and saddle feathers, a little bit of gold in there too, and an amazing chest of creamy yellow, tipped with blue on each feather as if spangled. Oh, and his shoulders are orange, with each secondary feather being half yellow, half blue. Definitely has duckwing behind him. I call his color Lemon Blue. I have a LOT of them and their splash version.

Here's a splash barred "lemon blue" (I have NO clue what his genes are, because the blue version of him does have barring, but also has a lot of this same red and yellow leaking in here and there. True barring can't do that, far as I'm concerned.)

A gorgeously but unbalanced tufted blue with lemon yellow leaking through. He now has only one and a half tufts due to picking from other boys.

Left to right: Lemon Blue, Silver Duckwing, Splash Cuckoo/Barred - The "lemon blue" is the female version of him
