Araucana thread anyone?

Yes, silkies come in bearded and non-bearded, but there is nothing lethal about that gene. There are many recognized breeds with lethal genes, so I doubt that was a consideration for recognition. Remember, as far as APA is concerned, meat and laying ability are considerations. While many of us keep our birds as pets, there are plenty of people who view chickens, even top-notch exhibition birds, as livestock.

Thanks for all the information on the blue hens. I'll have to get my blacks better before I try working on blue I guess. I'll probably keep them in the white pen for now and just cover up the blue with white and the blues that hatch out will be sold unless I get some that are outstanding.

All this talk of blue chickens with lacing, made me have a good look at my almost 2 months old, blue Araucana roo, and I could see that he has decent lacing. :D

I am really enjoying this talk about blues. I have yet to see anything even close to GOOD lacing on a blue Araucana. I really wish that the photo of Nancy's bantam blue hen who won best of Variety a the National Meet was a color photo. I can't tell much about her lacing from the black and white pic in "The Blue Egg Clucker". Of course, her tufts are unbelievably gorgeous.... Anyhow - I have a lot of experimenting planed for my flock with regards to introducing lacing.

You have some nice chicks there. Looks like blues and blacks. Awesome tufts. There are a few with serious tufts. Very nice.

Hi Lanae. Welcome home! Hope it was a wonderful time away with your husband.

My sportsman incubator is loud as well and the worst part of it is that it beeps right before it turns the eggs, so roughly every hour the noisy machine in the center of my living room adds a super annoying high pitch squealing. It's really bothersome and there is no way to turn that part of the machine off and I don't gain a thing by the warning beeps. They seem like an excuse for some techno wiz to add more cool (to him) computer stuff. Anyhow...... we all got used to the nose last year after a few days and I remember wondering what my parents were talking about when they came to visit and were asking about the noise. What noise? Oh yeah, that noise...... Of course, I don't have a hatcher adding a second machine to the noise.
Which reminds me, I am really interested in hearing how that hatcher works for you. I was planning to buy a sportsmans hatcher at the end of this season if I make enough in sales, but the dicky is a better price for sure. If yours works well then I will probably change my plans and buy one of his.

So, where are those pictures you promised us?
