Araucana thread anyone?

Congrats and adorable chicks!


My hatch finalized today with one last EE chick out, the remaining Araucana eggs got "disected" and I found a definite dud, gone a while ago, and the other must have died a couple days ago perhaps? Poor thing was a very pretty duckwing of sorts.


My one little adorable survivor though is fully dry now and rumpless with just one very little but beautifully forward curling tuft. Pics tomorrow, batteries need recharging.

I'll candle my 38 other eggs tomorrow night.

That "black/yellow" chick shown btw is blue.

Blue! Oh pretty! I can't wait to see what they look like when they "grow up" I also wish I could take better pics, using my cell phone isn't the best camera either.

One of my little rumpless araucana chicks has developed pseudo-tufts. It's so cute! S/he has one sparse tuft on one side and one on the top of the head. S/he's lopsided but cute! =) I'll have to get a picture later. I don't show chickens, so I don't mind.

So here are some chick pics that hatched from coberdor eggs. Sorry about the quality. I am terrible at chick pics...

I have six in the brooder. They seem to be doing well except for the tiny black one. They all seem to be rumpless. Not sure still. My blue one has one large tuft. I think my big yellow chick has two small tufts. Not sure about the others. It is hard to tell for me still. Is the chipmunk a duckwing? So excited!

I finally have a couple of girls to put with my only araucana roo. I hatched him from eggs from Shaffer a few years ago, he is lav split, rumpless, and triple tufted(one on each side and one on the bottom of his chin). I made a special pen for him hoping to get girls for him. The coyote took my rumpless, clean faced split hen 2 years ago. I have one hen that is tailed an clean faced that is an araucana but I can't remember if she is lav split. I tried establishing a flock so many times from so many sources I have lost count. I also hatched a very tiny tufted, rumpless lav pullet from the Hinkles last year. I am going to put these two girls and maybe a couple other layers in with him. I hope he is ok since he hasn't had a girl in years...is there anyting I need to be careful of when introducing girls to him. I don't usually keep roos around if they don't have a purpose, I feel bad he hasn't any girls in his mature life but don't want to get my girls hurt.....suggestions?

I find that if you put him in with a couple of mature mor dominant hens first that that settles them down, then add the younger ones in.

Anybody else have any other ideas?

Nice Araucana Chicks,


I tried hatching chicks but none of the eggs were fertile, Only 1 was fertile & hatched.

Ended up being a Roo He's like 3-4 months maybe older as of now ??? He's just a free ranging bird since I have no standard girls for him anyways.

He's from a friend who got all their birds from some pretty good breeders, probably more than good lol

Parents are ANN CHARLES Birds.

She gave me eggs to test, one one hatched, he's Black, with very small tuffs.

Might have to go pick up some old Cuckoo Araucana Hens at a friends
