Araucana thread anyone?

Ma Mamma - I Love the name "Broccoli" And what beautiful chicks.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's funny how I like to show them off, so silly of me! I love to see everyone's birds, too, though. My silly kids named the chicks, and of all the crazy names they threw out, these are the ones that stuck for each bird...

Broccoli
Pip One
Princess Celestia
Nugget (the abnoxious neighbor kid named this one) - supposed to be a Showgirl but is a full-blooded Turken for sure, thanks ebay!
R2D2
Mercury
Venus
Cheep Cheep
Pinkie Pie
Strawberry Shortcake
Francine
Majesty

I am not the only chicken-obsessed person who names them, am I???

I have Marc Anthony, Cleopatra, Nierti, Nerfertiti, Well you get the gist. I had a Brad Pitt but he died. J-lo was a not nice bird, so she is gone, and Beyonce refused to lay an egg, so she is gone.

I tend to name mine to make it easier on my record keeping and if its a unique name a picture of the bird will pop in my head when I am writing notes about it. All the better.

I am looking for someone that raises blue egg laying chickens to sell eating eggs to a lady that just wants blue eggs to eat for the novelty. She emailed me but I am here in Cali.

She is not saying they are a different breed, she is commenting on the fact that the ad is for eggs from show quality chickens and the leg color is incorrect, which is the first thing to indicate they are not show quality. There is nothing wrong with non show quality if that is what a person is looking for, but if you are going to advertise that your birds are show quality, then they should be. The leg color should be correct, the ear color should be red, the plumage color should be correct, the birds all have to be tufted and rumpless because you cannot have show quality without each of these items being correct and to say otherwise is to lie.

If it is the ad I looked at, my first thought was, If they are lying about show quality, what else are they lying about.

On a different note, araucana are definately funky and sometimes frumpy looking but watching them just makes me smile. What more can you ask of an animal that gives you breakfast.

apologies. i misread. ;)

I set 12 today. After reading about the fertility rates plus dealing with shipped eggs, I'm optimistic but trying to be realistic about if any actually hatch. They look like such sweeties.

So I have not been sure of what to keep lately and what colors I will be breeding in the future but these area few of the first chicks from several hatches that I kept. I can't wait to see them start laying! The cuckoo is the oldest and I am thinking it is a female. Any thoughts on genders?

I set the eggs I got from you today. So excited to see what happens. I don't know diddly about this breed but the first thing that I noticed is the two pics on the right had awfully red combs. Can't see if there are any wattles

Pretty chicks, Shanshan51 (sorry for the oversight).

I'm happy to report my chick with the offset beak has straightened out on its own. Looks to be a splash.
