Araucana thread anyone?

Currently and previously - No. Usually most of the girls have their specific boxes they like, and I know almost everyone's egg characteristics even if I wasn't around to check, but I usually keep watch of the girls while they lay at least 3 times a day. So, if I see this girl laying here the first time I check, and there's no eggs under her (or eggs of another color) then I check back an hour later and there's a blue egg there, it's hers. That, or someone else is laying on her old spot, so I just reach my hand under there and grab the one blue egg under her.

This winter I'll be hatching my own Olive Eggers, so if I spot that any of my eggs are not from the hens I though they were from - Yes, I will make a separate area for the bred hen to lay.

Hope I did this right, took several times, this is one of the pullets I produced last year, if you look at the reflection you will see the other tuft, she had nice long tufts both the same in size, this was one of the ones I had intended on showing that the dogs killed, pretty sure her coloring is AOV but I think its a sort of Blue Wheaten or I should say was, so this year I'll try to mate birds that I have left as strategically as possible. I also had a nice double tufted solid Black Roo chick that was rumpless and a double tufted rumpless BBR pullet as well as a double tufted rumpless Duckwing pullet that was what I was looking for out of my breedings, and out of the matings I got 17 I think it was that were double tufted and 5 or 6 of those was rumpless, so I was really pleased with how I did my breedings last year, this was just the only picture I had taken of any of those chicks. So hope it comes thru well enough to see.

Almost forgot this is a picture of my clean faced and tailed Silver Duckwing Hen, I still have her, this is one of the birds I got from UCON, she's an exceptional bird in flight, I've saw her fly over 70 feet before.

Your pics came thru Victoria. I like the silver duckwing. Her tail is huge and downward pointing. I like it.

Well that has cleared up some things but not all. Thanks for the info it has been helpful. I do have to ask are Aruacana considered Bantams. I did not see them at the NYS fair when I went but the bantams are shown on different days than the standards and I didn't go those days.

Araucanas come in Bantam and also Large Fowl.

Here's a picture of eggs from last year that I had from my hens, I don't have as many blue egglayers this year as I did last year after the dogs. At least you can see what my eggs looked like, and the one with the green scrible on the egg is actually a very light blue egg even though it almost looks white in this picture.

Often the lighter ones are far bluer than the darker ones though.

Still awaiting to be able to post pics of mine - But those are some nice colors!

is it true that a good way to tell if you have a real Araucana is by the feet? Im not too sure what I have, I was told by my good friend who has had chickens her whole life (and she is 65) that my hen was the Araucana, she gave me one as a gift. Im new to this so dont bite my head off ok... Ill post some pics. She is about 18 weeks old,has green/olive leggs ( bottoms are yellow) no tail and tuffed cheeks. She said she will lay blue eggs. what do you all think... I dont mind either was cuz she is so sweet i just want to call her by her right name.. ok here goes..
