Araucana thread anyone?

Yeah, the one you're giving to me right??? (Hint hint hint). I would give a lot for a boy like that. Where did he come from?
That "lemon blue" pair that you have. Sigh. Very NICE.

So, anyone going to the Great Falls Montana Poulrty show on October 2nd and 3rd?

Oh, Illia, she is so striking. Those tufts look hand painted. I just can't get over how pretty this hen is. How are her eggs?

Her eggs are pretty good. They're a decently vibrant color, but not the bluest. Right now I'm collecting every one she lays for a lady just 70 miles from here. They're fertilized by my Lemon Blue cockerel. Yes, I know, it is tufted x tufted, but his super blue genes should help hers, and their offspring will have amazing color.

The splash cockerel will soon be paired with my little splash pullet, so you can have the babies. . .

But not him. He I got from Gary Ramey in Salley, SC. He's the ONLY one out of over 30 birds I got that has tufts like that.

I have heard conflicting reports and wonder if anyone here can help clarify for me. Splash to Black produces all blue babies, right? And these are the darkest blue feathers? Blue to Splash is 50% splash, 50% blue, but less feather depth in the blues?

Splash to black creates 100% blue, yes, but the feather depth of blue is average.

Blue to black is 50% of each, but the feather depth of blue can be dark. Here's an example Ameraucana from that parentage, who is so dark she's nearly black.

Blue to Splash is 50% of each, and the blues can be quite light. Here's an example Jersey Giant from that parentage, who looks like a Lavender.

Okay, here's an updated collection of eggs. The Black Copper's are on the 4th column, being among the bigger sized eggs and more vibrant colored. As for blue, it's decent - More rich than blue though, in my opinion.

Ann,

How do your duckwings looks. I am hoping this fall to get some hatching eggs from you. But I want duckwing breeding if possible. I love Brad and want to add to my collection. The BBRs that would come out of that would be nice.

Not right at this minute. I am working on incubator issues and waiting to see how my next couple of batches hatch out.

Ha! I posted my question here before I remembered a photo by someone over at the Ameraucana thread about a super dark blue hen that I had thought was so striking. I was happy to find that it was you and your hen. She's quite something. It sounds like she is unique even among her siblings? That info on the combos and the blues they produce is so not the same as what I had read before, I'm glad I asked. I'd love to have a few different BBS combo birds to try it all out for myself, but I want especially to find a combo and start producing some darker blue Araucanas with nice feather detail and depth. I know the standard size isn't an accepted variety yet, but I just can't get over the NEED to have some of these birds in my life.
