Araucana thread anyone?

thanks...i have a question..i have two rumpless clean faced black hens with him that are beautiful but they lay these palee green eggs which is not what ithought i was buying but alas i have them..good layers but notthe color i wanted..my roo was from a bright blue..will his egg color pass onto the eggs of the offspring of these greenish eggs? i hope that was clear.thanks for your help

You can definitely breed for bluer eggs. That is great you have a rooster that you know comes from a very blue egg. So he should pass on genetics to a good, clean blue egg. Unless his father donated some other egg genetics, which you wouldn't see because you can only see what the mother passed (in the form of the nice, blue egg he hatched from).

It will likely take several generations to get the color you want. Essentially you are breeding for less and less brown tinting on the shell of the blue egg, which makes the egg appear green.

Edit: Your splash rooster is gorgeous! You are definitely in business for the next generation resulting in some lovely blue colored birds, if you breed him to those black hens! I personally LOVE blue and splash birds, my goal is a blue/black/splash flock.

Araucana Roos, are they generally friendly? I have read that this was a sweet breed. I would love to keep a rooster for my flock but have been having bad luck with mean ones. They all have gone after my two and four year old they walk by. They are good kids who don't chase the chickens. they all were raised by us from chicks.
Sorry, not trying to go backwards on the thread

But I wanted to share this with you. I am a first time chicken keeper. And BTW LOVING IT SO MUCH! I was VERY worried about keeping a rooster. Boy am I glad I gave it a chance. I can't speak for all Araucana roos but so far...mine is a jewel! He is young...about 5-6 months old so he could change into a NASTY BEAST! But right now he is the most friendly. I wanted to share these pics of my roo and son.

Roo jumped up into his lap.

Proceeded to get a back rub

Then a chin scratch...

What a sweet roo! I have a boy like that. He will even jump up into strangers laps. It does freak some people out.

I love our Roosters. We only have one NASTY Araucana rooster who will be going to a new home once I have a gal to pair him with or to the pot. He recently flogged my face and continues to stir up trouble in the yard.

This is what a BBR Hen should look like. Not a great pic because whe is a pest and her feathers were ruffled, but this hen is based on wheaten which is what Large Fowl BBR araucana should be based on. Most people have wild type.

All BBR rooster wether wild type or wheaten, will look like this.

This is what a BBR Wheaten baby looks like when just starting to feather in.

Here's my boy I just got a few wks ago. I don't know so much about quality but he's an awesome rooster with an excellent temperament.
Thanks for the pics Ksane and also Lanae. I do believe mine are based on wild type, so I am expecting the darker on the girl. My roo is 11 weeks and boy has he found his voice! It's a crazy little crow but he is showing it off all day. His one little difference from the roo above is he has a tail. It is feathering in with a beautiful black green feather, so I can't wait to see what he ends up looking like.

oh yeah, forgot to say that when they were babies, they looked like little chipmonks. they were a brown striped almost, not like the one on your pics Lanae. They hatched out that way.

I hadn't used Rudy for a while and decided to put him in with the splash hen that has the salmon chest and the last hen I brought home that was with the blue wheaten rooster.
I wouldn't mind one like Rudy with tufts
