Araucana thread anyone?

Kass, I think this Wheaten/BBR is a male also. I sure got mainly tails, no tufts and males from this hatch

. Do you all think this 1st one is male judging by his more uneven coloring? There's only a couple girls in the batch, the rest ALL boys.
Also, here's this one I wasn't sure of the color of a few wks back. The color is so cool looking, gray, buff & white splash on the wings and then her breast is coming in buff. I guess the trade off for so many tailed boys is that I got this really cool girl, huh?? One was taken in the shade and one was with flash.
ETA: They're 5 wks now.

It is just me, or does it seem like a lot of people are having a male heavy year? I know I am, and I have heard others locally say they haven't been able to hatch many, if any, pullets at all.

I have been mostly hatching males this year. Luckily with my most important hatch I had three pullets with tufts. Sorry not trying to brag,

but it is just so exciting to finally have tufts!

I have had batches of all males to 80% males. I guess I am going to have a full freezer this year.

Funny my hatch was a lot of tails too. I saw a couple of other breeders saying that also. I will send you more eggs if you are so disappointed.
Oh heck no! These babies are super awesome and tame, I love them. I decided to just place what boys I could and take the others to get caponized at the vet school nearby. I don't show and I don't breed so they can have tails if they want. It's temperament I'm interested in and that they've got :)
Can you tell if the BBR is a boy?

I am thinking the buff onr may be a splash wheaten but there is so many genes mixed in with the Araucana chickens it is still a guessing game. It is starting to look roo-ish, I would give it a little more time to make sure. The combs on the roos turn pink/red much faster then the hens.

Ksane, my bbr boy has much more and brighter feathers and I think he is younger then the one you posted. I can't see the comb, and am not experienced at picking out gender in the araucana yet, but I'm leaning towards girl(ish) I hope I'm not giving false hope.

I think this one's actually younger, it was born June 20 so that was after NEOCS.
Man, I hope you're right lol

Well they say the temperatures affect alligator sex (in theory). Over 34 degrees centigrade (93.2)produces more males.

i agree, Last year when I had my temps off just a bit I tended to get more boys. This year I have had 100% boy from a 100% hatch.

I do think I tend to hatch more boys when I hatch in early spring or fall. More girls in late spring summer. I only do small hatches usually 15 or so. I am sure I do not hatch enough eggs to really contribute to the odds. Oh and I have only hatched for three years so far.
