Araucana thread anyone?

Lanae,
I had a breeder email me from the coop tell me this pullet is wheaten based......they stated buff is wheaten based and she has the columbian gene as well.
what do you think? You've seen her on the FB page but no one mentioned wheaten. I think I might have her DNA tested.

I would seriously doubt eb as the base. Do you have other birds that are eb that you know for certain? I am not saying eb is not in araucana but it definately would indicate a major detour in the genetic history. Is she one of your serama projects and that is where maybe the eb might be coming from? But it would be fairly simple to test mate her and find out I would guess.

Now I'm going to have to go back and look to see if I still have the email. I'm going to have her tested for wheaten anyway. It's $25 per individual so I'm trying to choose 2 of the most likely to need tested
Nothing to do with Serama's. They are housed inside and the Araucana's outside so no chance of crossing there, Plus, I think my Araucana hens eat bugs bigger than my Serama's, lol
Oh, and I meant to say Db, not Eb, lol http://www.the-coop.org/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=88459&page=5

See the photo's part way down the page, Wieslaw posted photo's of a buff that "looks" a lot like my buff looking pullet and the rooster with the spangling, well they're related and that got me to wondering he could hatch that buff from the spangled, well, I may have some of the same genes in my flock

LOL! Db makes sense to a certain point except it has been pointed out to me that Db makes wheatens darker because it acts like a red enhancer. Maybe it is making mine darker because they have mahagony, but maybe yours do not. Let me know what the out come of testing is. I am going to have a few of mine tested in the spring depending on how this falls hatching season goes. I am already getting pure wheatens out of my wheatens, now just to pick the ones that are not too dark.

He is a BBR originally from Banjoejoe, but I think Ksane now has his parents. His father is stunning colored. It is my understanding his leg color is wrong for SOP and he is not wheaten based but wild (hope I got that right cashdl)
