Araucana thread anyone?

That Picture is sooo cute! Aracauna? I can give you some info about this rare bird i you want! We have a hen bantam silkie chicken, and three silkie chicks. The little picture as my identity in the little box on the left is a picture of my silkie's head. She is sooo fluffy!!!

This chicken is a very rare bird that no other chicken looks like. But it is a favorite. It sounds kinda like the silkie chicken. They are both rare, and both favorites. If they are like the silkie chicken, then they grow not too big. In your picture, yours isn't very big. I like small chickens! Did this info come in handy? if not, then just ask for more!

Thanks for that ... and yes the information was very handy. Noticed last night both the Araucana and Silkie were making the same kind of noises - long croak like sounds ... and you have confirmed that this happens. They are really beautiful birds, and are only just now accepting that I will pick them up in the early evening, to put them into their 'upstairs' room in the coop !! They don't mind being cuddled a little.

I culled most of the blues, right now I just have 2 left and they are nice but marginally. I think one is a cockerel, double tufted with a few tail feathers. He's young, over 2 months but could be closer to 3 months now and no sign of leakage.

The black cockerel was bought this fall. I hatched a solid black cockerel this past spring but lost him in the summer's severe heat. My hens are 2 and 3rd generation black to black breeding. I know I'll hatch some this spring with leakage in the cockerels but I'm getting there. The hens can hide the genes that make the red leakage but the cockerels will show it if it's still there and some of my older black hens were not from black to black breeding.

It takes time, for sure. I know most people are going to be wanting good, solid blue and black cockerels but they can't imagine the time and expense it took to make them.

I know I am looking forward to seeing what you hatch this spring! It is a shame that hens can hide the leackage. The quest for good blues is a long one, I think!

A few pics of Little Man from today, he is starting to get some pretty big boy colors and his head you can see the new feathers that are just getting ready to open.

Does anyone else see tiny, tiny tufts???? Or is it my imagination?
