Araucana thread anyone?

I know we all love pics so I thought I would share some I just took of my Araucana chicks.

This one has the coolest colours:

The full tufts just kill me, they look like old timey villains with the big whiskers.

This little rumpless guy had escaped the brooder AND the coop and was a wee bit cold outside on this rainy day. I want it to be a girl so I am fairly sure that means it is a boy. Guesses? (btw isn't he pretty cool looking?)

I think your rumpless guy is a girl. I had a pullet same color with the brown on her chest. I think if the brown was only on the back its a boy, but on the chest and back its a girl.

Hopefully someone else can confirm or deny.

I'm totally seeing boy! Those legs look thick to my eyes and the feathers over the rump seem rooster-ish. BUT..... my track record sexing Araucanas STINKS, so that's favorable for your pullet hopes. I really like the body shape of that bird.

cluckcluck42,
Love them! I especially like the dark one with the white one, almost looks chocolate

yummy
I have one just like that gorgeous russet brown and black. I don't know what the color or pattern is but I hope it doesn't change when it matures. And that last one, with heavy black lacing is so gorgeous! wow, that is such pretty color and they all just glow.

Thanks for sharing the pics

cackleberrycoop,

you know if it turns out to be a girl ( my sexing chicks ability probably sucks worse than yours, but at least one of us will be correct.LOL!) you should feel bad for pointing out the size of her feet.

Awesome color on the last one - It looks like a girl though, so far. . . Don't hold me on that though.

The rest are quite nice too. The one with the "coolest colors" is a boy though.

Oh, wait, that's me you're talking to! Gosh, this new name is going to take some getting used to....... Hmmm, Lanae, I'm looking down at my own, uhm, sturdy feet and debating weather or not to put any energy into being offended by your apparent prejudice against big feet on females. I'll let you know what I decide....
I wanted to ask you about your incubator in the photos before. Home made right? Do you have a fan and if so, what kind is it? We have been using a computer fan, but I think it is drying out our chicks too fast, before they have a change to finish leaving the shells. I'd like to find a gentler one I think.
I got such a thrill out of seeing your photos of all your pretty eggs, lined up and labeled for the bator. Had to remind myself of how horrendous it is trying to shepherd my flock through the winters without the added responsibility of helpless babies around, but the itch to hatch is strong!

Okay first I was going to say "DO IT!!

" - Then I saw you're in Montana, yeesh. . .

I'd say wait, honestly. It gets COLD up there. Now, out where I am or Lanae is, it is quite fine to do winter hatches.

I've got babies from this cockerel hatching today!!!
