Araucana thread anyone?

This is my new roo, Donald. I have never owned an araucana before. Could anyone here tell me his plumage color? And is it true that rumpless birds are missing their oil gland at the base of the tail?. If so, how do they weatherproof themselves?
Looks like a Gold duckwing to me, but a little too red, he may throw BBR.

Aloha,

I recommend Shannon at Diefly Ranch. They had the bluest eggs and tufts(black). Also Eddie from Awesome Araucanas(duckwings and whites).

There are other breeders that will sell eggs too, just not all are in the business per se, but are nice. I always wanted to get eggs from Smoothmule and Jenn Nashoba. And many others like Lanae Cash, Lisa Helms and Rene Clubb Lynch. To name a few of the best. Sorry that I didnʻt mention so many more.

Aloha, Puhi

I'm sure this question has been asked before but here it goes. I have 9 chicks that hatched the 26th of November 5 are rumpless none of them have tufts. If the parents of these chicks have some tufting will the chicks of my non tufted chicks produce any offspring with tufting? Or does one of the parents have to exhibit tufting to produce offspring with tufting. I really want to breed and eventually show to standard. I'm curious whether I need to order more eggs.

Aloha,

Tufting is a dominant trait, therefore, if a bird has just one gene, it will have tufts. So none of your birds carry the tuft gene. So you need more eggs.

Rumpless is also dominant, which means that your rumpless ones may carry the tail gene, but show the dominant trait, rumpless. It will be hard to breed out the tail. So you need more eggs.

Were they blue?

I do not see Araucana on the Diefly Ranch website. She has Silver Penciled Rocks. The site does not seem to be current--has a dead link to the Adult bird page.

Any more information on her status?
