Araucana thread anyone?

They talk about clipping the feathers around the area to help the roo have access. I would imagine that could help if the feathers hide her vent?

I've heard that as well. I've also been told that clipping the feathers isn't show acceptable and not necessary except for cleanliness. My roo has lots of back feathers, he's gotten to a barney and I think I have fertile eggs. It may be another roos DNA.... well if it hatches rumpless I guess I'll know.

If you really worry about it do it yourself artificially like take the umm... DNA from the roo with a turkey baster and insert into female

I have been told that the chick I aquired are Araucauna but I'm not real sure since in the past I've only delt with buffs, rir and barred rock.

Hi everyone! I bought a Blue Ameraucana chick from a man that has a poultry farm. He also sells Easter Egger's but they are in a separate pen. Anywho, I few days ago.. I noticed my chick looked a little off. This check is tailless/rumpless! I used my finger to poke above it's fecal opening and notice that the area is bare, meaning there is no bone there. There's just a hole where it's tail is supposed to be. It also doesn't have beard.. what does this mean?! Could it be that's it's actually an Araucana or definitely had an Araucana bred in somewhere down the line?
If you can, ask the guy you got it from if he breeds Araucanas as well as Am's... nothing jumps out yet saying yea or nay, but as another poster said, rumplessness can pop out in other breeds... also, the one big difference in Araucana and Ameraucana is Ameraucanas have white skin, Araucanas have yellow skin... Only way to knoe for sure is to grow it out and see...

Tails and clean faced can happen easy in Araucanas, but at least one of those has beard and muffs and one looks to have a bit of beard... so my guess would be Easter Eggers... Also would depend on where you got them... hatchery and feed stores usually are only EE's, for Araucana you really need to get them from a breeder... :)

I would go with Easter Egger then... beautiful birds and looks like all girls though so that's a score! :D

Yep, your blue does have a beard, but also was looking at the one in first pic too... she doesn't have a real big noticeable beard, but if you look at her throat directly below her 'chin area' you can see a darker triangular patch going down too... love her coloring, btw..

Thank you and I do notice that patch and her name is pony boy because when she first started getting her Feathers I was always telling her to stay golden and I'm a huge outsiders fan

Update on my Chocolate Araucana project pen. I have a few chicks in the grow out pen, nothing spectacular. Seems all the chicks hatched early spring had pale skin but another cross back to yellow and they will be yellow skinned. The oldest chick appears to be a cockerel, very good but he could be nicer. The more recent chicks hatched have all been yellow skinned and much nicer chicks. Most have been rumpless. One single tufted, most clean faced and this one chick is awesome, double tufted/rumpless and yellow skin!
