Araucana thread anyone?

The lethal gene in araucana kills 100% of the homozygots and almost 20% of the heterozygote this dominant Autosomal gene causes some severe abnormalities in the embryonic development of the head, it couses an incomplete fusion between the hyoid and the mandibular bons, cause a dysfunctional skull and death.

Yeeess, now I remember - the abnormal skull development.... thank you for clearing that up.

..... How did this bird ever make it this far?! :idunno

Only the Recessive homozote and some of hetero' survives, that is enough.
It is like the genetic of Huntington's disease

Some pics of the chicks I got this morning

....... The littlest one doesn't look too chipper. But I wouldn't either after being packed in a box for 2 days and shipped half way across country..... I made sure its drinking and it did eat some gro-gel.... maybe its just tired.

Check out these tufts!:

The white one, with leakage - any guesses what it'll look like in 6 months?

I'm guessing this is a cockerel:

The little lav looks like it has "bed head," wing feathers are curled up over its back!

Group shot:

And one more:

Any guesses on pullets/roos or adult colors is greatly appreciated!

I sure hope the tiny one makes it too

Cute! Give the little one some Nutridrench straight, couple drops right in the beak... As to color, they'll probably change again when they molt out their juvie feathers... little more time to see color is needed and pics in natural light work best... Congrats!

Thanks! I was so nervous they were going to get stuck somewhere in transit..... Yes, the lighting is awful, I took a lot of pics, but none really looked decent.

I read somewhere that legs can change color up until they're about 4 months old. I have no idea if that's true or not, but right now 3 of these have darker legs and 3 have yellow legs.

Oh, the little one perked up! It started eating and drinking and then collapsed into a mini-coma for a while, lol - wings and legs everywhere!

...... I had them in the bath tub, while I worked in the coop today setting up a brooder. They seem happy to be out there, but now I can't stop going out there to check on them! Its about 43F, they have a heat lamp and I made MHP for them too.

I'm getting the Genetics of Chicken Colours (Sigrid Van Dort) for Christmas

I'm not PC, so I'm just going to say it: Happy Thanksgiving everybody!
