Araucana thread anyone?

Thanks! The little twerp hasn't laid a single egg yet :) She's about 9 months old. I bought her from a hobby chicken keeper in December and he said she was about 4 months old then. He isn't a breeder, but he bought the eggs from a breeder.

The black copper marans that I got from the same guy lays light brown eggs though..so we'll see what color eggs the araucana lays.
There are no guarantees she doesn't have other breeds mixed in.

Early this year I ordered four Araucana pullets from Chicken Scratch Poultry. They could not guarantee the colors so I am going to need your help with two of them. Also, please feel free to correct or

Here is "Big Blue Girl" She is soooooooooo sweet - likes to be held and snuggles into you. First chicken I have had that has done that:

This is "Little Blue" She is much smaller than the other "blue": In the bottom picture she is shown with a reddish dark brown? pullet or roo.

There is an interesting black and white one that I think might be a rooster. The neck feathers are quite narrow and pointy:

Finally, here are some pictures of them together:

I love the heavy feathering on these babies and they are pretty calm for coming all the way from Illinois.

I did not expect these babies until May or June. Just this week I finally received my back ordered "Peck N Play". It is perfect for segregating chicks and would make a great broody home for chicks and Mom. It's marketing use is to allow chickens to free range while protecting them. Here is a picture of it with the Araucanas inside:

I LOVE it's light weight and it folds down to a 12 inch x 12 inch size to put in a carrying bag provided. There are also stakes but I did not need them in my pen.

I would love to here from all of you as to the colors these youngsters might be.

Thanks!

Not sure about the colors there. Beautiful little bunch of birds! The are going to be lovely.
The silver one may be a hen. I had one colored similar to that. I hope one of the experts helps you out.

Oh goodness, I can't imagine that being any sort of protection out in the yard. The bottom is open? Wow, how would that be safe at all? Maybe okay in a coop but then mine would be all over the top of it, toppling it over and pooping all over it.

Smoothmule,

It comes with ground stakes. It is meant to be moved around a yard as protection against hawks. It is very light weight and so easy to move! It is not meant to be a permanent structure.

You are right about the others flying up on it and leaving some poop. It is funny to watch the out of pen chicks fly up on it and try to settle on it. ROFLOL!!! The pen won't support their weight and you should see the shocked looks and hysterical flapping to try getting away from it.

So cute! This is exciting for you :) I love the peck N play idea for integrating new chicks and segregating broody hens! a:)

Thanks hennesseyt and flowerbh! Good to know they are probably all pullets. I am having fun with these cuties. Interestingly, I have gained a "5th" Araucana. One of my leghorn pullets has decided to join their group. I am going to name her Honey because she is so sweet.

They are about the same age and the leghorn is about the same size as Big Blue. Big Blue likes to peck all the other chicks so all the other chicks pack around Honey. Honey doesn't do anything but Big Blue leaves her alone and the chicks surrounding her. It is so cute to look in their carrier and see that bright white pullet with the 3 little ones behind her. Big Blue snuggles up to her and everybody is happy.

The other thing I thought you could use this for is segregating show birds but still allowing them to be with the other chickens.

Winter is making one last (I hope) push! Back into the 40's again for a few days here in the mid-west. I did take a couple of pics the other day when it was so nice out. This is the next generation. I have kept 2 out of 50ish hatch-lings so far. I have several others that are in the evaluation stage. I have kept one tufted/rumpless barred cockerel and one tufted/rumpless black pullet.

He is watching over her as she takes her bath!

She's a looker!

Hi
This is the first time we have had chickens and we have 2 gorgeous Araucanas 14 weeks old. Once of them is making a quacking noise and we were wondering if this was normal. She seems healthy in every other way.

Thanks
