Araucana thread anyone?

Are clean faced Araucanas born without peduncles or do their peduncles never grow tufts?

Correct, clean faced birds do NOT have peduncles. You can tell a tufted chick at hatch. If there is a naked peduncle it is probably from being picked by another bird. Tufts are apparently tasty treats and other flock members just can't leave them alone! They do grow back quickly at least.

The kids are now 5 months old and still together...mama, pullets and cockerels.

I have things ready to go in case I do need to separate. I'm putting it off because its going to be a pain in the rear as it will triple my chores in the morning before heading to work. Sparing between cockerels has progressed from hackle-raised stare-downs to minor chasing and of all things....wing dancing! Is that a normal thing for cockerels to do to each other? I have yet to see hard fighting or even a drop of blood. The minor spats are between cockerels only and the pullets are always left out of it thank God! Occasionally Mama will open a can of whoop @$$ on a random cockerel for no reason, so I wonder if that is part of the reason they are still able to stay together. This is the first time I've had a hen raise chicks so its all new to me. Or is it because they're Araucanas and that's just their nature? The lady I bought my avatar cockbird from kept his two brothers in together with 10 hens for a year and a half with no problems. She sold one recently to make room for more and said up to the day she sold him (just a month ago) everyone got along just fine. I love how gentle and mild mannered this breed is. I wish more people knew how great they were.

They are doing well. They are definitely more inquisitive than other chicks I’ve had. They peck at everything in my room when I let them out. It’s very obvious that they are very smart birds.
I have noticed some tuft feathers missing and I assume that’s from possible boredom but I can’t put them outside as it’s just too cold right now and the temperature fluctuates so much morning to evening and day to day.

cockerels would dance around a cat, lol.

I had 2 araucana cockerels together without problem. now I have 1 pair only and can't wait for breeding season to start. and I have to move to my new place before that. unfortunately I am still waiting for the building permit. I think that people in mediterranean countries live long because even death runs late here.
