Araucana thread anyone?

Yep, In Australia it seems all ours are bred more to the British tailed standard.
Here is a few of mine. Hen Violet, cockerel Sunny and pullet Rose. My fourth, another cockerel called Alpha is lacking in beard/muff so he will be used for an easter/olive egger project

they are so cute!

I have always loved that cobra look of the british araucana. I have had rumpless araucana but could not resist and got a pair of british araucana as well.

So I brought them back inside
I was too worried about the coop catching on fire and they seem to be happier inside.
I love having Araucanas they are definitely a notch above other chicken breeds.
I was worried about a coop fire too when I read you were using a heat lamp! But I'm very paranoid of fire...more than the average person. Better safe than sorry!

Yes, it appears the cock has a bigger influence on all traits than the hen.
I still don't know who to keep as far as the tufted cockerels. Both have uneven sized tufts. My most perfect bird is clean faced. I'm definitely keeping him. Every day they seem to grow and change so it will be a last minute judgement call come March. They will only be 7 months old then but I want to be prepared with fertile eggs in case some of my old layers go broody. I just ordered the APA's Standard Of Perfection. I need help on what they mean by "medium back length", and what the proper angle of the "posterior slope" should be. The one that most closely matches the SOP, regardless of tuft size, is the one I will keep.

That is mostly because his genes go to all of the chicks in a breeding pen. The Hen still contributes close to half of the genes though. Many breeders do not pay enough attention to the hens
