Araucana thread anyone?

I'm totally in love with the blue lemon color.

It's so exotic and lovely looking... and yet it reminds me of blue raspberry lemonade for some reason! Hehe

Oo now I'm torn... the black copper has stolen my heart as well.

I didn't realize the colors and patterns could be so varied and striking!

Looks like I'm hooked... before I know it there will be more chickens than grass in my backyard!

My pairings for this spring will include the Lemon Blue, Black Copper, Splash, and Blue Cuckoo colors. There will be enough to go around for people in need.

I do have hatching eggs available now, too, but it is at buyer's risk. The weather here is perfect for shipping and hatching, but on your end is another matter.

megcpat: I actually had a really dark blue cockerel once, but culled him due to a clean face, partial tail, and I'm only keeping one blue or lemon blue.

MadHatcher: Well, the colors are varied because we breed AOV, not recognized colors - which are actually very limited.

Oh Anne, your killing me here! Wow, Wow, wow!!!!! What is it about that feather pattern that just makes all the crud in life fade away for a moment? So, what is the BBS parent combo on this lovely lady here?

She is out of a black cock and a blue hen that has some bleed through color. This pullet has very clean, well laced plumage. I have a cockerel who is a very dark blue, nearly black, probably her brother. He's rumpless but has some gold leakage. He'll make a good breeding prospect for someone.

That is a neat colored tuft. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it stayed that way. Is the chicks coloration red? It looks like it in the pics.

I think this is the one you said was the red brown then your friend Sean said was BBR colored. It was the one that was browner than the dark red one, you said Sean said they were both BBR. They are so funky looking right now,

They are just funky fuzzy chicks with spikey feathers here and there. The one that Sean said was dark grey looks black to me still. I probably just won't know until they're past the juvenile feathers and get some adult feathers in. I don't think it will be long before they are feathered out the way they are growing.

My Serama's really change a Lot from the first feathers to the next moult. Do the Araucana's do this too or can I expect these 2 reddish brown chicks to keep the markings on the feathers?

Oh, and the black one has bilateral tufts too. They're still tiny but definitely there and looks like they are getting ready to shoot out. It's cool the way you can see the individual shaft of the feathers on the tufts.
I enlarged the tuft area and tried to lighten it. Are those more tufts that will grow out? or just the ear coverings? The other side has a tuft too but not nearly as nice as this one

It looks like feather shafts so there might be more tufts feathers comming out. The colors seem to change every day for me. Especially on the bbr and duckwing colors. The blacks and greys seem to stay the same to me.

I think it is funny how some of them seem so gauky looking with their feathers comming in and sticking up every where then others look all smooth and sleek the whole time they are feathering in.
