Araucana thread anyone?

I don't see any red on his secondary feathers, so he's an unclassified color. I'd say he's just either a blue with red leakage or a blue crossed with a BBR/gold duckwing. Pretty boy though.

from the same trio I have this blue laced gold duckwing dt/r cock (how did that happen?). He is the only gold duckwing I have. I want to get more gold duckwings so I went on the chicken calculator and now i have 2 white pullets in with him and a blue one.

Nate, Really nice birds you have there, the gold duckwing roo is super! What do you mean by "chicken calculator"? As long as I have been in the chicken business this color stuff still baffles me. Is there a web-site that explains color genetics?

Thanks for all yalls complements

I'm just trying to figure out how to set up my breeder pens to produce the most Standard colors with the Araucanas I have.

Any help is appreciated.

Here's how I have my Breeder Pens set up:
PEN #1 - Splash DT/R cock, White CF/R pullet and Blue CF/R pullet.
PEN #2 - Blue-laced, Gold Duckwing DT/R cock, (2) White w/grey lacing CF/R pullets and a blue-laced copper hackle CF/R hen.
PEN #3 - Black-Breasted Red DT/R cock, a solid White CF/R pullet and a Blue-laced CF/R pullet.
PEN #4 - Solid White CF/R cock, a Black-Breasted Red DT/R pullet, a solid Black DT/R pullet and a Blue Buff DT/R pullet.

Better IDEAS are welcome!!!

THANKS,
Nate

Your last two hens you showed are splash cuckoo.

The red breasted blue girl is the one creating your duckwings - She's a duckwing w/blue.

Your first pen will create a bunch of mixed up splash and splash cuckoo birds with odd gold leakage on them.

Your second pen will create a lot of blue, normal, and splash duckwing looking birds.

Your third pen will create more sex-linked blue cuckoos much like the first pen as well as some duckwing colored ones.

Your fourth pen will, in theory that the "white" one is also a splash cuckoo? - A bunch of and splash blue cuckoo birds with a lot of gold leakage.

If he's actually a true, pure white - You'll get a bunch of mixed up colored birds. They'll look like EE's, granted if the white is dominant.

So, I think your second pen is the only one to create standard colors. The only standard colors you can create in this big jumble are duckwing and white. (pair the white with the splash cuckoo girls and bingo)

To answer the chicken calculator question - There's a website that helps a little, but doesn't "explain" the genetics.

Should you decide you can't use this rooster I will take him off your hands. I'm breeding only EE's but he'd sure look good with them.
