snowhorse - Try looking for Wheaten Ameraucana or Buff Ameraucana auctions on eBay, you'll find him there. Also if EggBid is still around, he's on there too. Otherwise he's no longer on BYC anymore.

I know exactly where you're coming from on that one!

I was just about to PM you and see if you were OK - have missed your input on the thread lately.

So far so good, with regards to the incubator. It seems like so often lately, the things the we have bought have not been living up to their big hype, so that makes the Sportsman seem all that much sweeter to me right now. It is, five days into a hatch, absolutely wonderful! It holds temp without a waver off 100.00 degrees and turns those eggs and holds humidity perfectly. I am very, very impressed so far. I have been drooling over the farm supply magazines for years and finally am at a point where the demand for chickens made buying one a valid action. When the day comes and you do go shopping for your bator, Lanae, go on- line and shop the different sites; I found a huge difference in prices on the EXACT same incubator, but then different prices on shipping also, so it took some head scratching, but I was able to get exactly what I wanted for about $100.00 less than what the magazines offered it for. I'll post a pic soon. I'll be posting chick pics soon also!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Been a busy day here and finally found time to take pics of my newest Araucana chicks and of course it was after dark so they're all a little off in color without the natural daylight. I have 5 total, 2 hatched Jan 14th and 3 Jan 23rd. The older Slinky chick is HUGE, wow.
They're all some sort of chipmunk pattern but all different too, one even has blue wings (really cool chick) so I'm dying to see them in mature feathering of course.

I'd love to hear some observations about the subtle differences in their patterns and what it means for their adult colors.

I have "3" eggs in the incubator now that are out of my newest Araucana pen. Because I know there were a lot of Araucana's already sold before I got there to pick mine out, I can't even guess at what roosters these chicks were sired by. If my new rooster (Brooster) was not picked because there were better ones in there, wow, cause he's very nice.

Here are some of the pics I just took tonight. I tried to correct the colors but I really want some discussion about the striping patterns and what they mean. I'll get some pics in the natural light this weekend. I have heard that on the chipmunk striped chicks that the pullets have the black eye stripe. I've got some with a snip of a stripe on the head, large irregular areas with a bold outline, jagged line on the head/neck, just all sorts of different looks and color depths.

Awesome! I'm just reading over the last couple days worth of postings (a lot happened on this thread!) and saw your incredible find!! What I wouldn't give!! Did the people explain why they were selling out their flock? I am very envious of you right now. Congratulations on the beautiful new birds and on a successful hatch.

Cackleberrycoop,
He was selling out to move to Florida to retire, heart health reasons. I just wish I'd been a little faster getting over there, who knows what sold before I got to them. Actually, it was probably blessing....

and it might have kept me out of trouble

Illia, is that based on the head patch or eye stripe or something else? What about the one in the back in that photo? and the little blue winged chick? What do you think about the blue wings? I was thinking about it and it reminded me of one of my Serama chicks. The down was yellow with chipmunk stripes, nothing to suggest black but the lil guy is feathering out black....so he's just got a big does of melanizers and eumelanin and appears black but isn't really and won't breed like a real black chick. Would this chick have a diluted form of this or does he just have blue there? like a blue breasted red? or wheaten?
