Been a busy day here and finally found time to take pics of my newest Araucana chicks and of course it was after dark so they're all a little off in color without the natural daylight. I have 5 total, 2 hatched Jan 14th and 3 Jan 23rd. The older Slinky chick is HUGE, wow.
They're all some sort of chipmunk pattern but all different too, one even has blue wings (really cool chick) so I'm dying to see them in mature feathering of course.
I'd love to hear some observations about the subtle differences in their patterns and what it means for their adult colors.
I have "3" eggs in the incubator now that are out of my newest Araucana pen. Because I know there were a lot of Araucana's already sold before I got there to pick mine out, I can't even guess at what roosters these chicks were sired by. If my new rooster (Brooster) was not picked because there were better ones in there, wow, cause he's very nice.
Here are some of the pics I just took tonight. I tried to correct the colors but I really want some discussion about the striping patterns and what they mean. I'll get some pics in the natural light this weekend. I have heard that on the chipmunk striped chicks that the pullets have the black eye stripe. I've got some with a snip of a stripe on the head, large irregular areas with a bold outline, jagged line on the head/neck, just all sorts of different looks and color depths.
