My husband, son, and I still giggle over the bumper dumper episode. We watch all the re-runs. Its the only car show we watch, thank goodness.
I wasn't so fortunate with my last TSC visit. I came home with 6 Ameraucana( EE) babies ( I of course refused to call them Ameraucanas and kept calling them Easter Eggers as they were ringing me up) . They are way cuter than my Araucana babies (gasp!!) yes I said it. But I still love my Araucanas better.
I had 9 Araucanas hatch yesterday. I had set 12 and 3 died early. Course they were all the ones out of my silver duckwing pen. 9 is a great hatch rate though and all 12 were fertile.
I just set 20 more eggs in the incubator today. I actually had 3 dozen but only room for the 20 I set. I will put them in next weekend. I shipped out 6 dozen to various parts of the US this month. My orders have slowed down this week so I am definately going to have to buy another cheapo incubator so I can set more eggs. Sucks to be me! LOL!! Now if I could just get it together to buy the sportsman I want. I am so jealous Megan.

I would give my eye teeth to have 3 dozen Araucana eggs to set in my incubator. Now, who's jealous of who?
touche Megan. I guess my dilema is pretty cool. The styrofoam incubators are on sale for $ 39.00 right now so I will probably mosey on down and buy another one. I already have a turner for it. Actually I have a turner for two more. HMMM. My poor husband. He goes to bed every night to the sound of baby chickens and wakes up to the sound of big ones and he doesn't really like chickens.
Lanae, I too went to TSC to buy chicken feed and stopped to "just look" at the chicks and ducklings.Wouldn't you know that along with laying pellets I had 6 little Pekin ducklings at the checkout counter! They are nasty little buggers but I also like the way they cock their heads to give you the eye. Set-up two breeding pens today, double tufted splash roo with four black CF hens and the other a double tufted blue-breasted gold DW roo with a CF blue hen and two CF gold DW hens. To be on the safe side how long do I wait til the eggs are considered "pure" enough for setting? All hens have been running with EE's and Maran's roos in addition to my Araucana roos?
Had a nice day at the Monroe show. My bantam black araucana was Reserve AOCCL to my White-Crested Black Polish who took Ch. AOCCL. In the AOSB class, Steve Waters' white large fowl were Champion and Reserve- with his cock going on to win Ch. Large Fowl for something like the 16th time- Amazing show record on that bird. I hear the Ameracauna club is actually taking into consideration how hard it is for breeders to win here in the Northwest because this is the only place they are constantly faced with top araucanas to compete against. As I looked over the rows of araucanas today I thought, wow, no one coming to this show would realize what a rare breed the araucana actually is, they're better represented than many much more common breeds.

This is so hard for me to fathom. I have driven hrs upon hrs to poultry shows with the hope of finding one or two Araucana - usually only to find none at all. Rows of Araucana! What must that be like?

Curious, since I didn't go this time, who else shows LF Araucanas around here? I honestly feel like I'm the only one who even has them for at least 100 miles.
Well, I didn't say there were rows of large fowl- just Steve's birds there- but there have been Araucana Nationals before with fewer birds than we had yesterday. You people who breed for color need to show us your stuff once in a while. I hear there was a really gorgeous blue large fowl at Stockton last year.
Does anyone know how to get in touch with Steve Waters? I'm wondering if he is going to be at our Hamilton May show again this year and if he will be bringing any birds to sell. I would need a heads up so that I can find some precious possession to sell in order to have a hope of being able to afford his birds...
