I'd probably take about 100 pictures of it, then preserve the egg shell in a glass display with as minimal light as possible.

Thats the one. I hope her hen keeps laying those. How wonderful for her. Heck I would coat it in clear laquer and have it on display where everyone could see it.

Wow, that egg was GORGEOUS!

I read somewhere that Araucana eggs are often bluer than Ameraucana eggs these days? Is that true, or is it like most things relating to poultry, and boils down to individual lines?

It boils down to individual lines. I don't know of anyone that has an egg the color of that one from an araucana. If they did, they would definately be shouting it out loud.

the blue is showing of his lovely tail... see what i mean about feathering though? the one that died had long wing feathers like the other blue and the second one. the first one only has stubbins. no tufts but the 2 are rumpless... think they have willow legs too.

Just throwing it out there, pretty sure the second one is a boy. The first might be, and might not be. So sorry for your loss though.


HaikuHeritageFarm - Boils down to individual lines. I've got Cuckoo Araucanas who lay eggs either as rich or richer in color than my Blue Wheatens, who are up there at the top, then I've got plenty other both Ameraucanas and Araucanas with less blue or less rich of color. I'd say my Araucanas lay a better BLUE but not every time, of course. I've gotten a few greenish egg layers too.

That is an absolutely beautiful colored egg, almost Jewel tone in color. I sure hope she tried hatching it and knows which Rooster and Hen the Hen came from that laid that egg, I'd be doing those matings over and over again, gorgeous vibrant color.
