Araucana thread anyone?

I am fairly new to raising araucanas, and have a question...What color will my 2 1/2 month old pullet be?
I purchased her for a blue, but now she is getting red feathers on the base of her wings.

ndoles- I believe that BYC has some sort of minimum posts that you have to place on here before you are allowed to post photos. Not sure how many are required, maybe you can check the rules and regulation section for more info.

Is this rooster auracauna?

First day home in the traveling crate - you can barely see the tuft on the left side of his head.

A bad cell phone pix showing the tuft - there are new feathers emerging on the right side that I'm assuming will match the left???

Thanks. I'm very much in the learning stage!

ndoles you can go to a site like imageshack.com and upload the photo and copy and paste the forum code. I'd need a picture to be sure but the red on the wings is sneeky suspicion that your pullets a roo. but like i said, picture would halp to know for sure.

char259 its hard to know for sure. hes rumpless and tufted so thats a strong vote for araucana, but i'm really not sure about that comb. It could be that he was a cull out of an araucana program, or it could be that he is crossed with something as both rumpless and tufts are dominant traits. Did you get him from a breeder?
Thanks

Yes he appears to be an araucana. There are a few breeders who have wonky combs in their breeding program. I ended up with a couple of straight combed birds from breeders eggs. Sometimes roos will just have large pea combs that flop over. If you breed him to hens with really nice flat combs, it will even out in the next generation.

syble,

No. I didn't get him from a breeder. I don't live anywhere near a breeder that I know of. He and the two hens I got with him belonged to a guy who buys and sells chickens. He has several different 'types' (that even a newbie can see the difference in) but I'm pretty sure they are not specific breeds. That is why I'm curious.

He's been a great rooster so far (in my very limited experience) but he is NOT liking the two new hens I'm trying to introduce into his flock.

Cashdl - combs are so confusing - I had NO idea how so.

Thank you for your responses.

Lanae, how did I miss this post???

Though hatching eggs at the end of this month are VERY tempting... I would probably be sleeping in the chicken coop if I got anymore... right now at least.

However, a visit up to your place to see your Araucana in person sounds lovely! That would probably help me decide on what color is like most too, after seeing them all close up.

I did speak with Karen awhile back, she only had the pair available at the time and I really wanted eggs or chicks. She said she would keep me in mind if anything comes up in the future.

Hi Jeremy, send me an email [email protected] . Lets plan for a sunny weekend and you can come up and see my babies.

On another note: One of my splash hens died overnight. I went to feed yesterday morning and she looked like she went to sleep and didn't wake up. She was only about 18 months old. She was my last adult splash hen. I had sold the rest. I do have 1 pullet that I will now hang onto that is the same coloring.
