Araucana thread anyone?

Just a thought..if you are getting too crowded with all those babies, I would be happy to take them off your hands...

And I would even pay the postage..

I've never shipped anything like chickens before. Only fish and reptiles, and they go overnight express. I am going to wait a month or two to see how many roos and pullets there are (plus it is starting to get hot). I sure hope I don't get mostly roos like I did with my last hatch! 5/6 australorps were roos, and 5/6 chanteclers were roos! Probably a good excuse to build a second coop, eh?

Hello all!
I just got my first Araucana eggs from Hinkjc about a week and a half ago, I have had chickens for years but became intrigued by the breed when I first found out i could get blue eggs and I was thrilled when I found out she was only 40 minutes away! So I picked up a dozen and a half eggs and she was kind enough to throw in 4 extras and I went home to find my power out... Lol so I waited til next morning to put them in when the power was back on for a few hours. I candled tonight and it looks like I've got 5 eggs that are growing although one might be a quiter, I'm not loosing hope for it

In that week and a half, I have read this entire thread and learned so much about the breed and I have absolutely fallen in love! I want to get more eggs when these are done and build an Araucana pen and start breeding, nothing big like some of you guys (Hinkjc's place was fantastic with all her pens and birds!!) but I would like to have enough to breed towards the standard and try and better the breed and share it with my neighbors and friends.

Just wanted to say hi!

Just set 12 eggs from Cathy, and 10 lavender ones from Jody..Sure hope that incubator does not spike this time...I opened all of the other eggs, and only one had developed..and it was plainly tufted, too..

I plan on being extra careful with the new eggs. But I suspect that the postal service was not kind to the last batch..since most did not develop..and the one that did seems to have died just before hatching time.
Everyone keep fingers and toes crossed for me!

Good luck ndoles! I had a slight temperature spike from 37.5 to 39* C but it was only for a few hours and i have it under control now... I hope I didn't kill my last few viable eggs...The weather here has just been so all over that its hard to keep any one room temperature constant and I do not have central air so that just makes its worse... They are due to hatch on the 30th, so we'll see!!
