Araucana thread anyone?

Stacykins,
You can tell the day they are hatched, run your finger lightly over the rump, the rumpless ones will be smooth and the tailed will have that tail bump sticking out. Think about when you buy a whole chicken at the store to cook, the tail is more than just feathers, it is an extension of the vertebrae. There can still be a few stray tail feathers even if the rump feels smooth. Depending on how much, or how little there is left of the tail, there can be varying amounts of tail too.

First chick out is tufted. Lots more pipping.

Hey everyone! I'm looking for Rumpless Araucana hatching eggs shipped to Oklahoma. I'm looking for Blue, Black, Splash and Grey Rumpless Araucana Eggs. Let me know what you have! Thank you!

Nate

Nate,
Where in Oklahoma are you? I'm going to Oklahoma City on Friday to pick up some Serama's. I would have at least a dozen and possibly more to sell by then and could meet you. I'll be coming in on I-44.
PM me
Cathy

edited to add that I saw that Collinsville isn't that far out of Tulsa? Would you be able to meet in Tulsa for some hatching eggs?

Does anyone know if lime on the soil in chicken pen would hurt the chickens?
I am trying to think of something that will get rid of the smell of poo when the pen stays wet, like it has the last several days with all of the rain..
When I was growing up, people used it in outdoor toilets to desolve the poo.

You have to use garden lyme. There are two types. One is hot and will burn their feet. The other is best used just before a good rain, so it 'washes' in and it does help kill the smell. We use it in our chicken pens.
