Araucana thread anyone?

I candled the eggs in the dark bathroom, cuz I did not want to wait until tonight to see if 41 eggs got shot. lol So, the result is- 17 live eggs! :celebrate :woot They were darker then the last time I candled, that means they have survived a 110 plus degrees heat spike for who know how long! So happy!
I will have to put the eggs in lockdown on the 20th, which is in 5 days! :woot

Congratulations!!

So glad to hear that and I hope they make it all the way out!

Well, my one Araucana egg from this round hatched out, and, - It's a cuckoo! More specifically it is either a duckwing split or a full duckwing making it a crele. It looks like a boy so far, and clean-faced so far, but, it's still drying some. Either way this one's an important keeper until I find a better replacement of the same parentage. I've been waiting for a chick from my cuckoo guy for quite a while.

Pics soon.

Congratulations all of you with new babies and soon to be new babies. My incubator and hatcher are working like a charm. I am still hatching small batches, but it looks like I will be able to set almost two dozen eggs this Saturday from my pens, unless the girls stop laying for the rest of the week.

Question for you Araucana experts.

I have two bantam cockerels and one hen so am needing to sell one of the cockerels. The breeder told me he was "split for tufts" - what does this mean exactly? Would like to know so I can include relevant information in the advert but not mislead anyone (including myself!)

It means absolutely nothing. Your bird either has tufts or he doesn't. There is no such thing as split for tufts.

I am hearing this a lot lately - clean faced birds being sold with the tag "split for tufts." Where is this coming from? It's so suddenly common that it makes me think that it must be coming from one very vocal (and ignorant) source.

Someone needs to be educated!

BlazeJester - you are doing the right thing to investigate and ask questions before you advertise

That's truly amazing; 110 degree spike! I would have been certain they were all goners. So glad you have growing babies!!!!!!!

We are in the middle of our first hatch - 39 chicks out so far. These are all mixed breeds for a few weeks, pure birds go in next week. It's so magical! I'm bummed that there are no tufts yet on these mixed babies - I had expected some. Pretty sure I have rumpies though!

A high temperature, 110 degrees in this case, does not necessarily mean the eggs got to that temperature. It takes some length of time at a steady temperature for the eggs to reach the air temperature in the incubator.
