Araucana thread anyone?

A high temperature, 110 degrees in this case, does not necessarily mean the eggs got to that temperature. It takes some length of time at a steady temperature for the eggs to reach the air temperature in the incubator.
That is what I thought too. The temperature was fine the night before the heat spike. I think that the little kids that my mom babysits a few times a week, may have been the ones that caused the heat spike. :barnie

Sounds like you need to keep that incubator behind a locked door that the kids cannot access.

Here are a few more pics of some of my birds. I love this chick and how she is developing. Her chick down was really weird looking.

today at two weeks. She has one nice sized tuft.

Here is a couple of tufted chicks that look like they might have motteling which is weird.

I went to the Araucana Club website to search for breeders. I'm trying to find LF eggs. I got all excited when I went to the links and found an 11 page breeders list and found some in Arizona. Then I crashed when I then noticed that it was an Americauna breeding list. On the Araucana site.

Can someone guild me towards a list of Araucana breeders? I'm not looking to show. I just love the tufted araucanas!

Thank you
Sherrie

eta: and the pics of all these babies are making me crazy !! They are sooooo adorable

I don't know of any breeders in Arizona. I just looked up the members list for the Araucana Club of America and there is not a breeder listed for Arizona.

If you go back to the Club website and click on the links page, on the right hand side of the links page is a list by name of breeders who have websites. My website link is broken but my website is www.cashsblueeggs.com

I do not have any birds other than young chicks available, and I don't ship baby birds.

Three of the six eggs I have in the incubator have pipped, at least that I can see! So I will hopefully get a handful of chicks from Gary Ramey's stock! It is hard to not continually watch the incubator, haha.

I agree. I have been setting mid week so that I do not get tempted to mess with them. Its safer for all of us that way :) Then of course I race home at lunch and then after work as well. Sighhhhh does it ever get old lol

Haha, I don't think watching chicks hatch gets boring, even to seasoned hatchers!

Four out of six have completely hatched! All are rumpless. Three are cleanfaed and one has a pair of tufts under the chin (almost mistaken for fluff, but there are tuft penduncles present!). The two remaining eggs have pipped externally, so hopefully they'll join the other chicks soon.

What is the percentage of double tufts you are getting? I have a tufted male on 4 clean faced pullets. I need to double check my numbers but it seems like I am getting close to 40% double tufts.

Hi Lanae,

I was so excited to go home at lunch and see what hatched. While I was there I heard a TON of commotion. I went out and all of the birds I purchased from you were starring at the youngest pullet and screaming at the top of their little heads. I stood there for a while and then figured that nothing was wrong. I turned my back to walk away and I heard a THUD. The pullet laid an egg and it was sooooo blue and a good size too!!! I rushed in to get it as it was rolling downhill fast as she decided to lay it on the ROOF of the nesting box while standing up. WTH

Is it normal for them all to celebrate when when a new pullet starts to lay? It was so weird because normally just the one who lays starts announcing it not the whole group ahead of time.
