Araucana thread anyone?

Wow, 47 new posts since I was last here.

Well just as a quick update - I've got 14 eggs from Coberdor under lockdown, today's day 21, and so far I have one chick out looks to be a splash, so far appears to be clean faced. Got 2 more pips at the moment.

Congrats Illia. I hope you have more hatch!

Good luck on those. The outcome though will be mostly black or white birds, just as a heads up.

Got two black, one blue, and two splash chicks out. Got another zipping and several more to go. Sad news though, my last Araucana from the first batch, the tufted white one, is gone. Poor thing had seriously terrible constipation, white runny poo, a prolapsed vent, and got weaker by the days so I eventually put it down.

I have 18 Barred Rock/Araucana crosses in my bator right now. I have know idea what you would call the coloring pattern of my rooster? Hes the one in my Avatar. My hens are the barred. Im excited to see what they end up looking like. I set them this past Saturday. So I have a bit of a wait yet. Im hoping to see some olive eggs. Hes such a great rooster.

Unfortunately it looks like the lad in your avatar isn't an Araucana, but an EE. If he does pass the blue egg gene, then the eggs crossed over the barred rocks will be light green, since barred rocks lay light colored, tan egg. Olive eggers happen when one crosses a very dark colored egg (like one out of a black copper maran or wellsummer) with a blue egg layer. The shell color is blue with heavy pigmentation, resulting in the olive colored egg.

Wow! All these posts since I've been here last!
Cobredor's eggs have all hatched, and I now have 7 rumpless babies, and 3 have little tufts! I hope they all grow up to become healthy, happy PULLETS!
Thanks Carmel!
