Araucana thread anyone?

Illia, I was so happy to read your post about tufts chicks from non-tufted parents. I feel a little vindicated because I posted earlier that there was a possibility of that. (Reduced penetrance vs myth)

Carmel, I don't know about getting a black from a splash, except that I have a black henwho is from a black/duckwing x blue breasted red mash up, who are both from a splash x blue. Talk about a genetic pot luck! Not only that, but she has a straight beak and her mama is a crossbeak. I really shouldn't have hatched the egg, but I wanted to make sure my inkybator worked before spending money on "real" eggs.

I really could use some help sexing my pullets and cockerels. I have put my guess below. Can you let me know your thoughts.

1. My thought is gold duckwing pullet no tufts

2. Mostly white double tufted Cockerel?

3. Gold duckwing pullet no tufts again

4. Blue double tufted cockerel

5. Clean faced Cuckoo Cockerel? I thought it was a hen but three rows? But then again I do not see saddle feathers

6. Double tufted black pullet. This one seems the easiest to me

Your guesses seem dead on to me although the cuckoo is iffy. My cuckoos always get redder in the face both pullets and roos before my other colors will which is always confusing to me. Nice tufts on a couple of those.

Thanks Lanae and thanks for your great breeding! The cuckoo has been throwing me off for a while. I go back and forth on it. It is also a bit older than the others.

Also are the "green" legs correct for the breed?

Yes green legs are fine for everything you have, except black and cuckoo, and both the black and cuckoo chick have the correct leg color for their types. The green is called willow and is necessary for the duckwings and black breasted red.

I am or will be soon at leased looking for some cleanfaced rumpless chicks. Strait run is fine. I am looking for an assortment of colors except for black. I am in oregon so if you are near by or ship please let me know. I would be looking for maybe a dozen.

I will be setting some eggs soon to so I am looking to mix up bloodlines and I already have a nice black clean faced hen from steve waters. I want to get a few good pullets going then I will worry about a nice showy dbl tuffed roo.

Thanks
