Araucana thread anyone?

A chick I hatched out from Coberdor's eggs - brand new chick (sorry it is blurry) The tufts can be clearly seen.

Chick today 4 weeks old - at 1 week the true feathers in the tufts were visibly sticking out

Where did you get your eggs? I don't know that name - do you have a way I can contact them? That chick is awesome!

Nice. Mine are starting to hatch now. About half are tufted. You have some nice tufts there!;) Carmel

Here is a chick hatched 2 days ago that I didn't think would make it. Five of six eggs set at this time hatched, three are from my chocolate project pen and those are all black, some of the cockerels will carry chocolate, gonna be fun figuring out who, lol

This one has to be out of the Birchen rooster I got from Lanae

Look at those tuftts!

Thanks for all the responses. As I was telling someone, I am a long time chicken lover/raiser, but not of an Araucana, just Ameraucanas. In fact, until four days ago I had never seen an Araucana except in pictures. When my local feed store had some for $25. each, I decided I wanted to try to raise them. They are all rumpless and look very healthy but none of them look like they have tufts. I got 1 roo and 3 pullets, all of varying ages (1 month to 1-2 weeks of age I'm guessing), and it was a straight run, so the sexing is the very best determination at this point. Two are white and two are black with white on the wings. The largest white hen has a pea comb, I can't tell about the others (combs). Time will tell about all of this! Meanwhile, back at the ranch, if I'm going to get serious about this then I definitely need a tufted roo.

Thyme4JB,
Wow, I have never heard of a single true Araucana for sale at a feed store. Were they from a local breeder? There isn't a hatchery in the US that sells real Araucana's. They are all EE's. I can't wait to see photo's, that was quite a find :)

The guy who was in the "chicken house" that day was filling in for the woman who usually was there,
so he couldn't tell me if they were from a local breeder or not. Yes! Very unusual to find a true Araucana
at a feed store. I just hope they are Araucanas and not just a close cousin-looking rumpless pea headed
chicken hybrid. I'll post pictures when they get older and there is more detail to them.
