Araucana thread anyone?

My chicks are about 9-10 weeks old this week. I already want to add more!! I would like to get some splash and cuckoo Araucanas. Does anyone sell chicks? I have thought about getting some hatching eggs because finding Araucana breeders who will ship chicks is difficult.. How long until one of my female chicks might go broody....Maybe in the spring 2013? I do have 2 Orpingtons and 2 Wyandottes that I feel pretty sure are female that may hatch them out for me if the Araucanas don't cooperate.

Mine will go broody usually the very first year/season they begin laying.

As for chicks, there's a few that ship chicks. Gary Ramey, I think Stacykins? Or was it someone else? And I think Cashdl does too but I'm not completely sure.

Hatching eggs, I've got blues, splashes, and blue cuckoos but the blues and splashes aren't pure. (they're duckwing splits) The females appear so, but the males show otherwise.

Where are you located? I have some splash and cuckoo chicks. I live in Ohio. I'll be keeping most of my tufted pullets, but I know I'll sell many clean faced pullets and tufted Roos.

If I can't find home for me excess roos, I'll put them in with the dark Cornish I have for meat birds.

I have some of coberdor's chicks - they are fabulous! LOVE love LOVE the colors! Just waiting for them to get out of the "ugly stage" to take more pics. Get them if you can gg706!

I am not really concerned with pure. I am not breeding them or showing them I just want pretty Araucanas for my own enjoyment. Do you get all rumpless? I don't care about tufts...they can have them or not. Shame on me, I hate to dismiss all the labors of the hard working Araucana breeders out there...
But I actually prefer clean faced.....

Tails can pop up now and then but with good breeding not too often if not at all. Hey hey, don't worry about tufts vs clean-faced anyway, most Araucanas out there are indeed clean-faced. Most people use clean-faced females and one tufted male. It's easier to obtain than a bunch of tufted females and a clean-faced male.

sorry, I didn't communicate very well what I was asking....do your hatching egg stock get alot of tails or are most of them rumpless typically?

I rarely get a tail, maybe one a year. Illia has some beautiful colors. I'm jealous of her and Lanae's duckwings. Mine are improving. I get some beautiful splash, cuckoo and blues.

I will have some chicks for sale in the next few weeks. I like to wait till they're old enough to sex but I will sell them younger as long as they're old enough to safely ship. Prices will vary a bit because of quality.
