Araucana thread anyone?

Here's the babies that hatched yesterday from RaynDebi's eggs. I was so happy 7 of the 8 in lockdown hatched. Do they get any cuter?? lol

Very lovely birds! I agree that the third one is stunning, those tufts are so...poofy!

So my backyard is host to a rather odd group of young fowl. I brooded three Araucana chicks, and when they were two weeks old, I added three freshly hatched goslings to the brooder. I figured the size difference wasn't too bad at the time, though the geese would grow fast. Well, they've been outside and free ranging for at least a month, and the little group is inseparable. The goslings run after the chicks if they get too far away, and the chicks run for the goslings if they waddle away. I mean, by now I'd have expected the goslings to join the ducks, and the chicks to join the rest of the flock. None of them are bullied, either. They are just...bonded? The chicks sleep under the geese (who pile on the coop floor) at night, rather than roosting!

don't expect them to separate too soon, i have a black araucana pullet that i brooded with a golden exotic coturnix quail, they are still inseparable a year later, that hen will sit on top of which ever cage i move that quail to... i have like 50 or more quail but she always knows where hers is lol

ohh look at those tufts! I have 6 or 7 eggs still going from them myself, think they're due on the 28th? would love to get a couple like that beauty!

Please be sure to post pictures! All 7 of these babies are healthy and strong, they hatched just perfectly. I love watching baby chicks learn how to drink water. I think that's my favorite thing about them.

How can you not love that!! One of my other customers said they look like Grandpa Munster.

You all deserve a big hug for making so many terrific looking Araucana's! ! !
I can tell you that the past 5+ years with my Araucana's has been amazing. Watching my own flock develop, trying to get more people interested and every year there are more breeders..........and more Araucana's that are "Right On" correct. Each year I've been amazed to see what improvements I'm getting. Seeing so many breeders is so heartwarming and I wanted to say Thank You all for your interest in this breed. It felt a little lonesome when I first started with them. Not many people to talk with about my progress and problems. Not many poultry breeders even knew what they were and SO many people had easter eggers and there was so much education to do.

In a business where politics are the norm between breeders, it's so pleasing to see everyone appreciating each others achievements and sharing the joy and heartache while not being so critical and helping more and more people learn about the breed and get started with their own flocks. The more the better! With every new flock comes a new line that will feed the gene pool and strengthen it, not only to keep it alive but to make it strong and healthy.

This is the only Araucana pullet I've gotten this hatching season, from Gary Ramey's stock. She is pure black, no trace of any other colors. She'd be perfect if she had tufts, but alas, she is cleanfaced! But she will be a key bird in my flock. I hope to work towards a flock with only blue, black, and splash. That is why my two roosters are a blue and a splash. So having a black pullet is a total win!

I had no idea that there could be so much competition between breeders. I am glad it isn't the norm then with the Araucanas! The only way to expand and improve the breed is to work together, and it seems most people with 'canas do just that!
